MIDNIGHT TRANCE

MIDNIGHT TRANCE

A Poem by Rene Velez

It starts with one,
then it will increase in volume.
Something needed. I am in
my midnight trance without visions.
I am no longer safe in the late night hours.
Uncertainty will seize.
Fresh, the razor blades on my tongue.

I am an unwilling victim once again,
at the mercy of science, though science
is not my savior. Of it I have little faith.

Raise me above the clouds
before the thunder strikes.
Allow me to find my bearing,
remotely prepared before my final call.
