SKIRMISHES

SKIRMISHES

A Poem by Rene Velez

I see for now
it's a give and take,
Skirmishes and peace
to an unwilling war.

An opponent
retreats to regroup again
formidable in the dance.

Ravage the body
claw at the skin in satisfaction,
looking through windows of relief,

to be human again,
even, if only for a time,
I would not take for granted.
