WAITING FOR THE SUN

WAITING FOR THE SUN

A Poem by Rene Velez

she smiled behind dragon clouds,
words and friends with owl eyes,
wide, her thoughts like canyons,
her toes dangling near the edge,

glass and wine tears
from wood to fading embers,
she danced the blues
bleeding in flaming reds,

her finger nails brushing
against a canopy of diamonds,
Venus to the stars,
her figure forever etched
in stained glass,

as she gestured
and waited for the Sun.
