LAST OF THE LEAVES

LAST OF THE LEAVES

A Poem by Rene Velez

Nature should make you feel,
my thoughts wander in air after
catching the scent of something good,
after rain wet wood does that to me,
and I bet to some others too,

so, I lock my door and take a walk,
upon Gods leafy ground,
with music while my cell phone
counts the steps.

sleepy trees stand clinging
to the last of their leaves,
inevitably, they will fall,
trees standing tall,

bright colors will fade
turning white, turning grey,
people moving slower by the burdens
of snow, with less sunlight to the day,

and I will still be in my thoughts,
two thousand and seventy six
steps away.

Yeah man. This speaks. It reminded me a couple of weeks ago when the weather was still a bit warm, and it finally rained and a walk in the forest smelled and felt like I was swimming in aromatic tea.... yeah, I dig this piece Rene.
