MAINLY TO DEFY

MAINLY TO DEFY

A Poem by Rene Velez

I see spotlights
behind the eyes
I shake a fist
at the evening sky
mainly to defy
mainly to apply
significance to
my existence

I will rip and tear
into the now,
shout in space
where there is no
sound, dig a hole
in solid ground
jump in water and
attempt to drown.

I will...
give a gaffe
and have a good laugh,
release my charms
as I flap my arms
and try to fly,
maybe get a good cry
before my final
good bye,

this I will do
before I die.
