WHEN SLEEP PERSISTS

WHEN SLEEP PERSISTS

A Poem by Rene Velez

Within time I will not be
and when sleep persists
I will drift, in and out,
here and somewhere
not here. I fear, a better place.

I am thankful I do not remember,
it steadies the soul. In time I will
find peace but here I sleep
beneath the blankets.

I will play the silent movie reel
deep into the early sunrise,
where mountains peak
beneath the feet of angels
and civilizations crumble

within the almighty hand.
