SHE, WITHOUT WARNING

SHE, WITHOUT WARNING

A Poem by Rene Velez

And she shook
her sleeves under
conifers and evergreens
beyond the sacred
she breathed...

she
crumbled old brick
and ancient mortar,
prayer flags at her feet

she will claim
what is hers, again,
her fingers brushing
against the living,
Lama shaken in its shrine
of wood and rock

she spins the prayer wheel,
waking the sleeping
without warning.
