POCKET WATCH AND BUTTON SHOES

POCKET WATCH AND BUTTON SHOES

A Poem by Rene Velez

Eyes connect
she sends me
to a market place
a smile slightly different

her hands warm
upon the skin
foreign language
I cannot decipher

a love, familiar,
found through
the smell of cheese
and fresh fruit,

a coat laid
above a puddle
between a pocket watch
and button shoes.
