NOTHING REALLY MATTERS

NOTHING REALLY MATTERS

NOTHING REALLY MATTERS
A Poem by Rene Velez

Sometimes I'm up before the dawn
just to see the Sun wake up.
The rest of the day wants me
to give a s**t about current events
but the world is too needy,
and the older I get the less I give.

Deep inside, my thoughts
only scratch the surface of
how I feel about this world.
A pen my only tool, words the
only recording to my sound
proof room of creativity.

Responsibilities are different now,
my focus, a bit more internal.
More time for words.
My personal contribution to the decay.

The world rife in disappoint,
And I ask myself. Do I care? After all,
in the end, nothing really matters.
Just ask the greats...
who have been forgotten...
Or will soon be forgotten,
given enough time.

But then I think to myself,
someone has to.
