I WILL NOT BE PRESENT

I WILL NOT BE PRESENT

A Poem by Rene Velez

This time I will not be present
for the grand opening,
hours before the ribbon cutting
I will be gone...
up and away like flood lights
before the gala,
stretching arms in autonomy,
above the human frequency,

to the day
I am floating, a particle
of something more,
a bystander of the cosmos,
insignificant and aware,

beyond the gowns,
starry eyes, red carpets,
and crowds in great cheer,
I am a watcher on the wing,

Leave me on this road of rubble
and stone, here I am at home,
here I am one with my procession.
