SURRENDERA Poem by Rene VelezLight fights the window curtains and wins, sneaking in the early morning, living room surrendering. I, to hot tea, and television screen to watch Tony side with the Philippines, bringing to mind sounds of Jamaican Palms swaying, white sands, Ganga smoke and island drinks, Outside, snow and rain erode concrete in its seasonal pace morning bird songs leaving branches abandoned for warmer climates and a mutual understanding slowly making its way up my pajama pant legs as I stand by the heater Peering out the window. © 2014 Rene Velez |
