HOME COMING

A Poem by Rene Velez

HOME COMING

The trees pass
At incredible speed
Under grey clouds
And Bono sings of
A home coming

It sounded good
Over the phone
Until thought accompanied
Me on my destination to you
Forgiveness is fleeting
And the hurt still wet
Upon the skin

I have fought the exits
And detours I conjure
On this familiar road
And the Fires I feed to
Please my soul

Your words still there
Like fresh cut weeds
Choking a feeling
Still beating in the
Same room where you
Sit with the light off.
