SilencedA Poem by Rem SevvenWritten February 8, 2006.Happiness is just a word.
Why should I be seen and not heard? Questioning the point of my existence. Is it luck or just chance? Why do you think yourself more important? Age does not make inner wisdom grow. Why put your guess before others, When you yourself do not know? I am just an adolescence, So my opinion is next to none. Why should I believe your words? Why should I trust what you say? When I needed you the most, You turned and looked away. You want me to trust your guidance, To let you lead the way. But after your misguidance, Why wouldn't I walk away? I don't like to be forgotten. I'll tell you what you need, Forget all your cruel ways, Your selfishness and greed. I could share my thoughts with you, I could lead you all the way, But because of my disposition, It matters not what I say. You turn away from my suggestions, You cannot bare to change, Would it hurt to listen, To fallow another person's ways? The young do not get a fair opinion. You put us in different groups, Yet treat us no different then all the rest. You judge us by our worst, Rather then our best. Who are you to say what rights we have? Do you really think that pleasing you- Is what makes us glad? You do not seem to think that we can think ourselves. why should we be treated differently then anybody else. As the next generation, Why shouldn't we have a say? It is OUR future being decided, by the way. You force your wars upon our hands. Why should I fight, When I don't believe the cause enough to make a stand? Go and fight your own wars, And die if it's what comes to be. But whatever you do- Don't leave your debts to be payed back by me. And make up for all misgivings, I won't face what hate and prejudice you create. I'd rather my future be in piece, Then in strife caused by all your hate. Where does your loyalty lay? With your greed or in your heart? When will your rein of power end? When will we earn our independence? You turn us against peers of a different nation, Loaded guns and strangulation. A war wages where peace should lie. Why should the young have to die? You decide upon our futures, Poisoned by your lies. For all the mistakes the old have made, It's the young that pay the price. Knowing this, then why should you get to decide- What is wrong and what is right. On misguided eyes and deaf ears our pleas do fall. Because of your stubbornness and need for power, Will you condemn us, one and all? Unclear vision and silenced words, Not truly seen, and never heard. © 2014 Rem Sevven |
