Lines Written Late At Night

Lines Written Late At Night
Keep talking.
Tell me all the things you wished you were,
and lure yourself into a false sense of contrition you've adopted as home.
It's always easier to project the man you wish you were in your hollow apologies,
than to accept what you're capable of and make the effort to change.
It will always be easier to fall asleep focused on the breath beneath you,
rather than the deafening sound of silence that screams what we know we hate about ourselves.

So enjoy it while it lasts...
Enjoy it every time you're left without thought,
and when that pattern of sleeping sound changes in the slightest.
Enjoy it every time you feel like you've changed for the better,
and you haven't compromised what you once prided yourself in being.
The hurt and hurting once close enough to compare,
now far enough to contrast is what keeps our tired minds awake enough to write,
and sad enough to live to forget.

I'll keep talking too...
to have the chance to get hurt again,
and to love myself for the man I've shaped,
never needing to distract or convince my mind I can be what I'd once hoped I was...

I loved these lines so much. Beautiful work. I agree very much with this. I always tell people that just because "that is just how [random person's name] is" it does not make them or their actions correct. People need to want to change, we can all change. but we all become accustomed to who we are that no one makes the effort to actually make a change.
