The Moment

The Moment

A Story by Reinhardt
"

A short story. Masked as romance at first but turns into a thriller with suspense around each corner. A twist in the tail definitely. The guy asks the girl out, everything is not as it seems.

Love is an emotion that brings joy but yet can cause so much pain. Sometimes I feel like there is no more joy or happiness left. The few drops that remaining evaporates as soon as I try and reach for it. The moment is like a weed that floods your garden. It starts out to be small. When you do not control it, it floods the whole garden and takes up all the space. It suffocates all that is good, it destroys the things you actually want to keep. The kind of terror that when left destroys from the inside out. It is like an addiction, and I love it.

My name is Daniel Vixen. This is my story.

I never really believed in true love. I often ask myself if the answer has changed. Honestly, I don’t know. Why? Let me explain. I met a girl. A young and enthusiastic woman that brings life into everything she touches. She is like one of those girls from a movie, those that don’t really exist. In my case, well, she did exist. Not only did she exist. The more I spent time with her the more I realized that she became my existence, the reason I wanted to live, or so was the idea I created. Before long we started seeing each other more often. It was starting to grow, faster than I expected. The moment. Starting to become my reality. I had to have her. Me. Just me.

I would like to think of myself as the romantic type,

you know, the guy who buys the girl flowers. So I did, every day I would put a flower on her doorstep with a note that read something different each time. I spent hours upon hours a day just thinking about this girl that stole my heart. Days would past and I wouldn’t even notice, she became my time. The best part of my day was when I could see her. I had to see her, every day. It became like a normal routine. Like drinking coffee. The best coffee that you’ve ever tasted in your whole life. A bottomless cup of joy, so it was at first. My dreams were not just dreams anymore, they were reality. I was never letting go. Never.

I started planning. Planning the way I would make her mine. I was going all out for this one, leaving nothing behind. A special occasion that I wanted to remember for the rest of my life. It was going to be, I just knew it. It had to be perfect. I started by choosing a day. A day that she will have time for me in her busy schedule. She was very busy each day. I chose a Thursday, the day before the weekend. It had to be at night, during the day it just wouldn’t be as special. Next, I had to find the perfect location. The ocean. Nothing says love more abundantly than being near the ocean. I knew a little place down by the docks. I just knew she would love it. She did.

Finally the day arrived. The day I was waiting for so anxiously. Everything was ready, I was ready. I left a bit earlier to make sure I picked her up on time. She usually goes for a jog at around 6:30 pm, and I know her route by heart. There was this quiet little alley she used to jog through on her final turn back home, that would be perfect. So I waited. Just like I predicted she came down the alley. My heart was beating outside of my chest. The sweat dripping from my forehead as I was getting ready to do what I should have done a long time ago. As she passed me I jumped out from behind putting one arm around her waist and the other around her neck. The cloth was still damp and it worked like a charm. She didn’t feel a thing. I carried her like every man should carry his woman. I placed her down on the backseat and started heading towards the docks, I was so excited. The moment , the moment was approaching, fast. I couldn’t wait.

Gab.. Gab.. Gabriela. I softly whispered her name. Trying to wake her up. It took some time but she finally woke up. Then happened something I never expected. She started screaming and shouting pulling on her ropes like a wild animal trying to escape from a trap. I pulled her down and put some tape on her mouth and took hold of her by the shoulders. She stared into my eyes. I could see the love building up inside of her. I started talking in a slow and soft manner. I still remember those words till this day. “ Hello Gabriela” She looked so happy. “It’s me, Daniel, your love’’. Her whole body was shaking. At that moment I knew we were meant for each other. I told her that I would remove the tape If she promised not to shout again, she gave a slight nod. “I’ve been waiting so long for this day. All the time we spent together. I'm so glad it built up to this moment”. She started to speak. Her voice was trembling with emotion.. “What are you talking about, I’ve never seen you in my life”. She replied . “What about all the times we sent together in the park and at your house, what do you mean you don’t remember me”. It felt like my whole world got tossed upside down. “I have never seen you before ever”.  I have never seen her this way. “You look so beautiful when you sleep, silent and happy”. I told her everything. How we were together in the park. How we had coffee. Even how we spent many nights at her place. She just couldn’t remember. Why couldn’t she remember, why? It’s like I wasn’t even there. Of course I was there! All the time! When she jogged I was always following her from a distance. When she went to the park I would stare at her for hours. I even went into her home at night to watch her sleep. I know I was there.

She looked so beautiful  just laying there. White plastic sheets. A single light. It was perfect, just like I planned it to be. The moment finally arrived. The moment I waited for so long. The moment I would express my love to her. I was ready. I took hold of it by the handle. Pulled it up high behind my head and with a forward motion stabbed it into her heart. I could feel our souls being connected. We became one. The red blood dripping onto the ground in single drops. I removed the blade from her chest. She was finally mine, just mine. I removed a piece of her hair and placed it into a small bag. Something I used to remind myself of that day. A special day. This one had a special place among the others. It was the last one. I removed the body from the old rusty container which I have used many times before. I never felt happier in my entire life. That night I had the sweetest of sleep. We were together. I was competed .

I woke up. Made my coffee like every other morning. Stared out the window. I noticed a young girl jogging. So beautiful.

Let’s go for a drive.
