There aren't bad people.A Story by MandyRead it.
I don't believe in bad people, I believe in people who do bad things. The human mind is two parts- part natural, and part trained and enviromental. A lot of what's in the mind is there from birth, but a good deal of it is learned and brought about through life, experience, and perceptions. People who are considered "bad" could just have a chemical embalance, which is NOT their fault. A mental issue is just as serious as a physical issue, although sadly, a lot of people don't see that seriousness. Having a mental disorder is just like not having an arm. If you don't have an arm and someone is asking you to pick up a plate with that missing arm, you can't do it, right? No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot pick up that object with that non-existant arm. You can't just pull an arm out of nowhere! Same thing with a chemical balance- without the proper sollution, (medication, therepy, self-help), a person can not just change their ways of thinking and behaving. If it's just not there, the person cannot just pull it out of nowhere. Another way people can become what is considered "bad" is through learning and obtaining negative qualities, aquireing them through negative experiences and enviroments. Again, this is not the person's fault. Just like the natural disorders, people who have "learned" their "bad" ways often cannot just change on their own. They can't just pull the desire and motivation to change out of nowhere if the idea's just not in their head. The mind is a resource, but you can only pull out what's been put in. You cannot create something out of nothing, no matter how creative you are. A lot of times, a person's negative ways are part natural, and also part aquired. With all this in mind, I'd say it'd make a whole lot more sense to focuss on sollutions to these mental problems, rather than focussing on how to "punish" these "defective" individuals. Of course, some people are beyond help, and that is truely sad. Also, if someone poses a threat to others, I agree they should be kept in a secure holding place until they are well- just as if they were in a hospital. © 2009 Mandy |
