Corporeal

A Poem by Roberta Weth

Let me see
If I have this straight

God created this world
Out of the vacuum void

He made us in it
Heck we are made out of it

He took a pile of dirt.
Rotten leaves and animal leavings

Shaped it into a man
And gave it his image

But to walk with him
I have to reject
This world

Live off of bread crumbs
And moldy water

Don't notice men

Don't acknowledge their beauty

And Heaven forbid!

Don't even think of looking

At my fellow woman

It leaves me wondering why.
What whim of childish fancy
With what sadistic glee

Made you create this world?
Did you plan for this?

Am I just failing to see
The big picture behind your

Jewel bedecked altar,
White wax candles,
Golden statues,
And silk tapestries?

Because all I can see is this place
Material, Corrupt and completely created by you
