Success is relative

What is success defined as these days?

Wealth? Favor? Eminence?

That’s what Merriam Webster defines it as

The other definition is ‘a favorable or desired outcome’

What if your desired outcome lead to neither wealth, favor, nor eminence

Does that still make you successful?

Just a note to say that this subject is something I have often pondered on, being regarded by most of my family as an utter loser but regarding myself as pretty much a success. I have my life pretty much as I want it for the next few years, does me fine.

My hero, Samuel Johnson, said dome interesting things about success. He said that it could not be expected, that it was not the same as virtue but was an important concept in that it motivated people to actually do things.

"He that has no hopes of success, will make no attempts; and where nothing is attempted, nothing can be done." - Samuel Johnson, Adventurer 81
