The Blackbird On Its PerchA Poem by WindSongMy poem was an entry in a contest to write a poem in Emily Dickinson style, and the poem I chose to replicate was Dickinson's "The Robin Is The One."The blackbird on its perch Beckons to the dawn Expressly in its quest, That early April morn! The blackbird on its perch Broke the quiet sound With its sleek demeanor May is in a lurch! The blackbird on its perch Instinctively won't wait, There's chirping in the nest And harvest filled with bait. Here is Emily Dickinson's poem: The Robin Is The One The robin is the one That interrupts the morn With hurried, few, express reports When March is scarcely on. The robin is the one That overflows the noon With her cherubic quantity, And April but begun. The robin is the one That speechless from her nest Submits that home and certainty And sanctity are best. © 2014 WindSong |
