Generation of Women

Generation of Women

A Poem by Reeses

You must be a woman to know what a woman feels

You must know her struggle to understand why she misses meals

Working to feed her children just as her mom taught her

She has two jobs plus the obligation of being a mother and a father

Those are not only instances in a single parent situation

Some mothers manage to take care of their families with a lack of education

Ensuring their kids always remain in school

Passing classes becomes their home’s biggest rule

This also applies to the working class

The woman who starts first has the opportunity to be freed of her past

Cooking and cleaning and taking care of her family

She sounds like a champ to me

Forming her own reality

Praying her time to rest is soon to be

The world patiently waits for a savior of this nation

The wait has been resolved by women of many generations.

I'm really not a poet, so I may not be the one to say anything. But, this poem spoke to me of courage and strength in the face of great obstacles.
