EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - DAY

A small house in the middle of the woods. The morning sun
illuminates the dew-soaked leaves and birds chirp from all
around.

Sitting on a small chair on the porch is RIDER WEBB, a kind
faced, brown-haired, 11 year-old boy. He's carving a small
figurine out of wood. Transfixed by his figurine, he doesn't
notice JOHN WEBB, a chisel-faced, dark-haired, 45 year-old
man sitting on his horse in front of the house, watching.

JOHN
Hello, Rider.

Rider looks up quickly.

RIDER
Papa.

JOHN
Whatcha doin'?

Rider glances down at his figurine. Behind a window, DORIS
WEBB, a 40 year-old with dirty blond hair peers through the
curtains, sees John, then closes the curtains again.

RIDER
Mama was tellin' me about voodoo
dolls. I thought I would make one.

JOHN
Voodoo dolls, huh? Didn't think
you could make one outta wood.
Who's that one supposed to be?

RIDER
It's you, papa.

John chuckles as he gets down from his horse and walks up the
porch.

JOHN
What were you planning on doin' to
me? Gonna stick me with needles?
Break me in half?

Rider shrugs his shoulders.

John lifts his hand and motions with his fingers. Rider
hands over the wooden figurine.

JOHN (CONT'D)
Let's see if it actually works.

John applies pressure to the torso of the figurine with his
thumbs. Rider bites his lip, anxiously waiting for the
result.

John breaks it in half. They both glance at the pieces of
wood, disappointed. John throws them off the porch onto the
ground.

JOHN (CONT'D)
Guess it don't work, does it?

Rider looks at his father, expressionless.

JOHN (CONT'D)
Too bad. Your mother inside?

RIDER
Yeah.

John enters the house. Rider gets up and walks to the pieces
of his voodoo stick figure and picks them up. He turns his
head when he hears, from inside the house, Doris screaming
and crying.

DORIS (O.S.)
John, stop it! Leave me alone!

The sound of slapping and thuds against the walls is heard.
Rider drops the pieces of voodoo doll to the ground and shuts
his eyes.

INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE - 10 YEARS LATER - DAY

TOM SHEPPARD, a young, well-built man in his late '20s and
wearing a sheriff's badge, shuts the gates of a jail cell.
Behind the bars is a scruffy-looking BUM, passed out on a
cot. Tom walks to his desk and throws the keys into a
drawer. He looks up and sees BILL BAKER, a graying, hard
faced gentleman in his late '50s.

TOM
Can I help you?

BILL
I'm lookin' for Rider Webb. Know
where I can find him?

TOM
I know a Rider, but his last name
sure ain't Webb.

BILL
That's him. That's the boy I'm
lookin' for.

Tom squints his eyes and walks closer to Bill.

TOM
You sure?

BILL
I am.

TOM
Well okay. What do you want with
that boy anyhow?

BILL
He's got a bounty on his head. I'm
here to collect him.

TOM
You're gonna kill him?

BILL
No, sir. Just collect him.

TOM
Who's lookin'?

BILL
Just tell me where he is, sheriff,
and I'll be on my way.

TOM
He's a good kid, no matter what
you've heard. You treat him well,
now, you understand?

BILL
Sure thing. Now where is he?

Tom grabs his hat, puts it on, and walks out the door. Bill
follows.

EXT. SAMUELS FARM - DAY

A quaint farm in the desert. A few chickens roam around,
clucking.

From the distance, two horses ride in. On top of them is
Bill and ANGELA, a pretty but stern-looking brunette in her
late '30s. They both wear dark cowboy hats.

They ride in slowly, looking around and surveying the farm.
The front door of the house opens, and Rider, 21, steps out
and looks at them with curious eyes. DELROY, a shy, blond,
17 year-old boy with a lazy eye steps out after him.

Bill and Angela reach the front of the house and stop.

RIDER
Can I help you?

BILL
You must be Rider Webb.

RIDER
Don't know of any Rider Webb. You
can leave now.

Bill laughs.

BILL
(to Rider)
Where's the gun, Rider?

RIDER
I ain't got no gun, and I ain't who
you're lookin' for.

BILL
The gun, Rider. Give it to us or
tell us where it is.

RIDER
Are you talking about the shotgun?
We got one of those, and I'll be
glad it to you if you don't get off
my property.

Bill grins widely at Rider.

BILL
You look just like your father, you
know that? Except you got both
your eyes.

Bill laughs at his own joke, but Rider isn't amused.

RIDER
Who the hell are you? What do you
want?

BILL
I told you what we want.

Angela takes out her revolver, c***s it, and aims it at
Delroy.

ANGELA
I'm giving you 2 seconds. One..

RIDER
It's not here!

Angela drops her revolver.

ANGELA
Where did you put it?

Delroy grabs Rider's sleeve and tugs on it.

DELROY
Rider, let's go inside.

RIDER
Don't worry, Delroy. They ain't
gonna shoot us.

Bill gets off his horse and walks up to Delroy. He bends
down and looks him in the eye.

BILL
You ain't too bright, are ya, boy?

DELROY
Leave us alone.

Bill looks over at Rider, then back to Delroy.

BILL
This here your brother?

DELROY
Yessir.

BILL
Ever think it a bit queer that
ya'll got different colored hair?

Delroy looks over at Rider, then back at Bill.

DELROY
Me and Rider are just alike, sir.
We got the same brains. Just like
brothers.

Bill stands straight up and turns to Rider.

BILL
You're gonna take us to that gun.
We'll be back tomorrow at the same
time, and if you're not ready, I'm
gonna kill your big-brained brother
here.

Bill walks to his horse and gets on. They ride away. On
their way out, Bill turns his head towards Rider and Delroy.

BILL
And don't try to leave, 'cause
we'll find ya, and we won't be as
nice.

They leave.

DELROY
Rider, who were them people?

RIDER
I don't know.

They enter the house.

INT. TAVERN - DAY

A small tavern filled with random VAGABONDS, nicely-dressed
W****S courting men and COWBOYS playing poker.

The doors swing open and Bill and Angela enter. Many of the
cowboys look at Angela, whistling and smiling at her. She
ignores them.

They walk to the bar and take a seat.

Before they have a chance to order, MARCUS, a town trouble
maker, walks up to Angela.

MARCUS
Well hello there, pretty lady.

ANGELA
Walk away.

Marcus laughs giddily.

MARCUS
I ain't never seen you around here
b-

Angela removes her pistol from its holster and slams the butt
of the gun onto Marcus's nose. He staggers back, bloody and
screaming. He falls on his a*s.

Bill is oblivious to what is going on and Angela turns back
to the bar, not phased by what has happened.

MARCUS
You b***h!

Instantaneously, a swarm of five THUGS swoop in on Bill and
Angela. THUG #1 picks Marcus off the ground. THUG #2 gets
in Angela's face, but she doesn't turn to him.

THUG #2
I ain't afraid to knock the pretty
off that face of yours. Who the
hell do you think you are?

Bill, looking down at the bar, chuckles underneath his
breath.

THUG #3 walks up to him.

THUG #3
What do you think you're laughing
at?

Bill grabs Thug #3 by his balls and pushes him back. Thug #3
screams, but before too long Bill head-butts him, knocking
him out and down.

The other four Thugs go for their guns but Angela already has
a gun aimed at Marcus's head, cocked and ready to shoot.

Nobody moves.

ANGELA
Prove I won't do it. I'd love it
if ya did.

Timidly, the men put their guns away and walk off. THUG #4
goes and picks up Thug #3 off the ground. They limp away.
Marcus sticks around for a moment, waiting for Angela to drop
her weapon. She looks at him for a moment, then drops it.

MARCUS
Ya'll ain't welcome here. This
ain't over.

Angela doesn't dignify Marcus with a response. She turns
back to the bar. Marcus walks away, holding onto his nose.

INT. MAX'S BEDROOM - DAY

Lying in a bed and covered by a blanket is MAX, an old,
graying man with not much time left. Rider sits in a chair
next to him, feeding him oatmeal with a spoon. Delroy sits
in a chair in the corner staring at the ground.

MAX
You ain't goin' nowhere.

RIDER
If I don't go, they're gonna kill
us. I'll be back.

MAX
If you leave, we're as good as dead
anyhow.

RIDER
That's not true, Max. Delroy can
take care of you.

Max points at Delroy.

MAX
(shouting)
You think that dumb little b*****d
can take care of me? He can't even
tie his own shoes!

Delroy continues to stare at the ground absently.

RIDER
Max, lay back and shut up for
Christ's sake. If I could find
help I would, but nobody wants to
have anything to do with us.

MAX
You ruined our lives. I don't know
why I ever helped you or thought
you were worth anything. All you
ever did was make things hard for
me any my boy.

Rider drops his head and rubs his forehead.

RIDER
You don't mean that. You're old
and delirious.

MAX
Kill them, Rider. Shoot them when
they come back.

RIDER
How much this illness has changed
you, Max. You're not the same man.
Listen to you.

MAX
Whatever happened to the murder I
once saw in your eyes? Why can't
it return just once, in the time we
need it most? Why can't it come
back?

RIDER
You taught me better than that,
Max. It's never coming back.

MAX
If you leave us, Rider, you're as
guilty of murder as if you killed
them b******s with your already
blood-stained hands.

Rider gets up and exits the room. Delroy walks up to Max and
puts his hand on his head. Max pushes it away violently.

MAX
Get your hands off of me, boy.

Delroy looks at him with pleading eyes.

DELROY
I'm sorry, father.

MAX
Shut up and get out of here before
you do something stupid.

Delroy exits.

INT. RABBITVILLE SHERIFF'S OFFICE - DAY

JEM, a young man in his early twenties with a thick, bushy
mustache, sits in a chair, leaning back with his feet resting
on a table. He plays with his revolver.

Marcus walks in, nose bandaged.

MARCUS
Jem!

Jem looks up and rolls his eyes.

JEM
What is it now, Marcus?

MARCUS
I need to see the sheriff.

JEM
He's with Abby. What do you want?

Marcus licks his lips.

MARCUS
We got trouble in town.

JEM
What kind?

MARCUS
A weird-lookin fella and a pretty
gal. They're nuts. Did this to my
nose.

Jem chuckles.

JEM
You probably deserved it.

Marcus looks around nervously.

MARCUS
(stuttering)
I overheard 'em talkin' about
robbin' the bank. I went up to'em
cause I was gonna say, "you best
not be robbin' a bank in my town,
you dirty scoundrels," but that
woman, she hit me in the face and
they said, "you ain't gonna stop
us. No you aint."

Jem gives Marcus the stink eye.

JEM
That true?

Marcus reels back as if insulted.

MARCUS
That true?! You best believe
that's the truth. R.J. and some of
the boys walked up to help me, but
the man, well, he grabbed Jimmy
Stevens by his balls, knocked him
out, and that woman put a gun to my
head!

Jem sits up in his seat.

JEM
You're kiddin'!

MARCUS
I ain't kiddin'! These fellas is
crazy. I'm afraid they gonna stir
up some more trouble. Rob the bank
and run off.

Tom enters the sheriff's office.

TOM
What's goin' on here?

MARCUS
We got trouble in town.

TOM
You're talking about the trouble in
the tavern about half-an-hour ago?

MARCUS
Yeah, I was in their mindin' my own-

TOM
I already heard all about what
happened. Get out before I knock
you sideways.

MARCUS
Yeah, but-

TOM
I said get out, Marcus.

Marcus drops his head and walks out, despondent.

JEM
What was that all about?

TOM
Just some bounty hunters in town
minding their own business. Marcus
stirred up some s**t as usual.

Jem cackles.

JEM
Bounty hunters?

TOM
Yeah. One of them came in here
this morning asking about Rider.

JEM
Samuels?

TOM
Yep. Referred to him as Rider
Webb, though. Very strange.

JEM
Why do you suppose two bounty
hunters are lookin' for Rider?

TOM
I don't know that you've ever asked
a dumber question, Jem.

JEM
Well it took them long enough!
Think we outta do something about
it?

Tom sits down and sighs.

TOM
I just don't know, Jem. A part of
me thinks it ain't our place, and
another part of me feels
responsible for everyone in this
town. But we all knew this day was
probably gonna come. Just don't
know why it took so god damned
long.

Jem and Tom sit and think to the ticking of a clock on the
wall.

EXT. SAMUELS FARM - DAY

Rider sits on a rock a ways away from the farm. He stares
off into the distance and watches as the sun slowly sets. He
shuts his eyes. His hair dances in the wind.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - 10 YEARS EARLIER - DAY

Rider, 11, stands behind a tree with his eyes closed.

RIDER
19.. 20.. O.K.! Here I come!

Rider opens his eyes and darts forward, searching behind
trees. He runs further into the woods, searching around
desperately.

RIDER (CONT'D)
I'm gonna find you!

He runs around, laughing. He runs further into the woods,
unable to find who he's looking for. He runs further and
faster.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS A - DAY

Near the Webb homestead, Doris looks around, expecting Rider
to jump out from the trees. She can't find him.

DORIS
Rider! Where are you, honey? I'm
here!

She looks around nervously.

DORIS (CONT'D)
Rider! I'm out now! Come get me!

She searches desperately.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS B - DAY

Rider, lost and scared, runs and runs further.

RIDER
Momma! Come out now, please!

He stops and looks around.

RIDER (CONT'D)
Mama!

Rider sits down next to a tree and starts to cry. He slams
his palm against his forehead repeatedly.

RIDER (CONT'D)
Stupid, stupid, stupid!

After a moment, he gets back up and walks on.

Looking around, he turns and starts walking backwards. His
head turns around frantically as he searches. Suddenly, his
foot is caught on something and he falls backwards.

He sits up and grabs his butt in pain. Curious, he looks
down to see what he tripped over and sees a large, round
STONE, unique to these woods.

Mad, he kicks the stone and it unhinges slightly from the
earth. He kicks it again and it falls out. Underneath, he
sees the corner of a small aluminum box. He leans forward
and digs with his hands. Finally free, he pulls the box out
and opens it.

Inside, he finds a COLT PEACEMAKER with a green, padded grip.
Wowed, he looks at it with a dropped jaw.

DORIS (O.S.)
Rider! Rider, where are you?!

Rider smiles and stands, but then looks down at the pistol.
He thinks for a moment, then puts it back in the box and puts
the box back into the hole. Rushed, he fills the whole with
dirt again and replaces the stone.

DORIS
Rider! Where are you!

RIDER
Right here, Mama!

Doris turns and sees Rider.

DORIS
Oh, Rider!

She runs to him and wraps her arms around him.

DORIS (CONT'D)
Why did you do that? Don't ever
run off this far again, understand?

Rider nods his head.

RIDER
I got lost.

DORIS
I know. It's okay. You're with
mama now.

She puts her arm around his shoulder and they head back
towards the house. As they walk away, Rider turns his head
around and looks at the large stone. He's fascinated.

INT. HOTEL BEDROOM - 10 YEARS LATER - NIGHT

Angela sits at a table on one side of the room cleaning her
pistol. Bill stares out the window.

ANGELA
What are we gonna do with him after
we find the gun?

BILL
I suppose we kill him. The less
people that know about it, the
better.

ANGELA
I don't think that boy is ever say
any-

BILL
Shh..

Angela stands up and walks to the window. Her and Bill look
outside. They see two SHADOWY FIGURES running behind a
nearby building, and another SHADOWY FIGURE on top of a roof
across the street.

ANGELA
Damnit.

BILL
We're gonna have to leave early.

ANGELA
Right now?

BILL
Right now, or we have more trouble
than we need.

Angela walks back to the table, reassembles her gun and loads
it with six rounds. Her and Bill put their coats and hats
on. They grab their gun belts and wrap them around their
waists.

Angela stands by the door with her pistol ready. Bill turns
out the light and stands by the window, pistol ready. It's
quiet other than the sound of scattering footsteps outside.
From inside the hall, floorboards creak.

INT. ABBY'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

In a dark bedroom, a single candle illuminates Tom and ABBY,
a pretty blond in her late '20s. They are on the bed making
love.

INT. HOTEL BEDROOM - NIGHT

Bill peaks through the curtains.

A gunshot blast is heard outside and he ducks back. The
window shatters. More gunshots from outside as bullets fly
in through the window. Bullet hole form on the walls and
lamps and other furniture shatter.

INT. ABBY'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Tom and Abby stop humping and Tom sits up quickly.

TOM
Gunshots. From outside. You heard
it?

ABBY
I didn't hear anything. Don't
stop.

Abby grabs Tom's shoulders and pulls him down, but Tom
refrains.

TOM
There's something going on outside.

ABBY
You're crazy. I didn't hear no-

BANG. BANG. Outside, multiple rounds are shot and a man
yelps.

Tom gets up and frantically puts on his clothes.

TOM
I gotta go, Abby.

ABBY
Aww, can't you just deal with it in
the morning?

TOM
No! I got to go!

Tom puts on his shoes.

EXT. MAIN STREET - NIGHT

Another gunshot, this time from inside the hotel. The man on
top of the roof falls to the ground, dead.

INT. HOTEL BEDROOM - NIGHT

It's pitch dark in the room. Bill and Angela are in their
places. The curtains fly as a breeze enters through the
shattered window.

The door flies open and Marcus stands with his gun aimed.
It's dark and quiet. A light from the hall casts a lonely
shadow into the room. Weary of his situation, he steps back
slowly. He doesn't see anything inside.

MARCUS
Ya'll better come out now.

Silence.

MARCUS (CONT'D)
I'm serious. You've reached the
end of the line.

He takes another step back.

EXT. MAIN STREET - NIGHT

Tom runs out into the street in overalls and no shirt,
revolver in hand.

He sees the dead man on the road and runs to him, but before
he gets there the sound of a gunshot is heard from down the
street. He looks and sees flashes of light inside of a
bedroom on the second floor of the hotel. More flashes and
gunshots.

He takes off down the street. As he runs, he sees Thug # 2
lying dead behind a corner.

INT. HOTEL HALLWAY - NIGHT

Tom slowly makes his way up the stairs, gun in hand. He
peeks around the corner down the hall and sees Marcus and
Thug # 1 lying dead on the ground in front of the dark
bedroom. The only sound coming from the bedroom is the sound
of the breeze through broken glass.

INT. HOTEL BEDROOM - NIGHT

Tom enters slowly and turns on the lamp. The room is empty.
He walks to the window and broken glass crunches beneath his
shoes. He looks out the window and sees Bill and Angela
riding like lightening down the street on their horses. Tom
runs out of the room.

INT. RIDER'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Rider lays sprawled out on his bed, sound asleep. He's woken
suddenly by the sound of broken glass from the living room.
He stands up and runs out of his room.

INT. LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Rider enters and sees Bill and Angela standing in the middle
of the room.

RIDER
What are you doing here?! Get out-

Bill punches Rider in the face and knocks him down. Rider's
lip is bleeding.

BILL
Get up. We're leaving now.

RIDER
I'm not going. I have to take care
of Max.

BILL
Who?

From inside another room, Max moans loudly in pain. Bill
turns to the door and walks inside.

INT. MAX'S BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

Bill and Angela enter. Bill turns on a lamp and heads over
to the bed. He lightly slaps Max on the face.

BILL
Wake up, old man.

Max opens his eyes and looks at Bill.

MAX
Get out of my room before I piss
all over ya.

Bill take out his gun and aims it at Max's forehead. Rider
runs in.

RIDER
Don't touch him!

Angela grabs Rider and holds his arms behind his back.

BILL
Is this who you have to take care
of, Rider? Because I can take care
of him for you, right now, if you'd
like.

RIDER
Please don't! Leave him alone!

MAX
Get that gun out of my face, you
lousy c**k-sucker.

Bill pistols whips Max in the face, then digs the barrel of
the gun into Max's stomach.

RIDER
I'll go! Leave him alone!

Bill lets up and puts his gun away.

RIDER (CONT'D)
Just give me one minute.

BILL
Hurry up.

Bill and Angela exit. Delroy peeks in and enters. Rider
sits next to Max.

RIDER
I'm leavin' now, Max. But I'll be
back, I promise.

MAX
Who the hell are you? Where's my
son?

Rider points to Delroy.

RIDER
He's right there. Delroy is right
there.

MAX
Not him! The other one!

RIDER
Max, I'm leaving. Delroy is going
to take care of you.

MAX
I don't know who you are. Get out
of my house!

Rider sighs and stands up. He walks to Delroy and kneels
down.

RIDER
Delroy, I'm going to Brooklyn. You
got it?

DELROY
Why you goin' to Brooklyn?

RIDER
I have to take care of some
business. But I'll be back, okay?

DELROY
Let me come with you!

Rider puts his hand on Delroy's shoulder.

RIDER
You gotta stay here and take care
of father, okay?

DELROY
I don't want to! I wanna go wi-

RIDER
Delroy! You gotta stay here. You
gotta. I'll be back, I promise.

Rider hugs Delroy then exits.

EXT. SAMUELS FARM - NIGHT

Tom and Jem ride their horses up to the front of the house.
Delroy is standing on the front porch barefoot and in his
pajamas.

TOM
Everything alright?

DELROY
No, sir.

TOM
What's goin' on?

DELROY
They took Rider.

TOM
Who did? Who took Rider?

DELROY
I don't know who they are. But
they hit father.

JEM
They hit old Max?

Delroy nods his head.

TOM
Well, s**t.

Tom scratches the back of his head.

JEM
What we gonna do?

TOM
I'm gonna go after them.

JEM
You're gonna do what?

TOM
Killed four of my townsfolk.
Beatin' helpless old men. These
guys ain't just bounty hunters.
They're trouble makers. I gotta
get Rider back.

Jem scoffs.

JEM
Well I ain't goin' with ya. They
seem too dangerous. It's a suicide
mission if ya ask me.

TOM
Well then it's a good think I'm not
askin' ya. I'll try and be back
before dawn.

Jem and Tom look at Delroy as he plops down on his butt and
cries. They turn to each other and Jem nods his head towards
Delroy.

JEM
Whatcha wanna do about them?

TOM
Can you watch over them until I get
back?

JEM
Yeah, sure.

TOM
Alright. Hopefully I'll be back
soon.

JEM
Hopefully you'll be back.

Tom turns back to Delroy.

TOM
You see which way they went?

Delroy shakes his head. Tom looks up and around.

TOM
Alright.

Tom gives his horse a light kick and rides off past the house
at a moderate pace. Once he disappears into the dark, Jem
looks down at Delroy. He spits to the side.

JEM
You can take care of the old man,
right?

Delroy looks up, tears in his eyes. He shakes his head no.

JEM
That's the spirit. I knew you had
it in ya, kid. Good luck.

Jem turns and rides away. Delroy stands up slowly and enters
the house.

EXT. MAIN STREET - NIGHT

Jem rides into town. Abby is standing in front of the
tavern.

ABBY
Jem!

Jem rides over to her.

JEM
Well, hello there, miss Abby.

ABBY
Where's Tom?

JEM
Tom? He went lookin' for those
bounty hunters.

ABBY
What?!

JEM
Them bounty hunters kidnapped Rider
Webb. He said he'd be back soon.

ABBY
He'll be okay, won't he?

Jem laughs.

JEM
Yeah, sure. He'll be just fine.

Abby looks to the ground, fraught with anxiety.

JEM
I'll be seein' you around, miss
Abby. Oh, and until he gets back,
you can just call me sheriff.

Jem smiles widely, tips his hat, and rides away. Abby walks
towards the tavern, worried.

INT. MAX'S BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

Delroy enters the bedroom while Max lays in bed, grabbing his
head and moaning. Delroy walks up to the bed and looks down
at Max. Max turns to Delroy; his head is bleeding.

MAX
Go get Rider.

Delroy doesn't move.

MAX (CONT'D)
You heard me! Go get Rider!

DELROY
They took him.

Max moans some more.

MAX
Oh, what am I gonna do? I can't
even get out of bed, god damnit.

DELROY
I can take care of you, father.

MAX
Let me tell you something. You
can't even take care of yourself.
You've got a weak brain, boy, and
the last thing I need is you
stompin' around here and catching
the place on fire tryin' to tuck me
into bed.

DELROY
But, father, I'm not stupid, I
swear! Rider's been teachin' me
things and-

MAX
It don't matter what Rider's been
teachin' you. You'll never learn
nothin'.
You've always been useless and
you'll always be useless.

The tears come. Delroy puts his hands to his face and can't
hold back his crying.

MAX (CONT'D)
Just leave me alone. You wanna
help me, just leave me in peace.

Delroy stops crying and lowers his hands to reveal
frustration and anger.

DELROY
Father, why don't you love me no
more?

MAX
Oh, for God's sake..

DELROY
Please, father! I can help you!

MAX
Then leave me alone, you little
monster!

Delroy explodes with anger.

DELROY
I'm not a monster!

Delroy wraps his hands around Max's neck and squeezes.

DELROY (CONT'D)
You're a monster! I'm not a
monster! You are!

Max attempts to pry Delroy's hands loose, but he's too weak.
His face reddens as he struggles for air.

DELROY (CONT'D)
You're the monster! You are! You
are! I hate you! I hate you!

Max begins to give up. He lets go of Delroy's hands and his
body relaxes as what's left of his life is released. Delroy,
still incensed, is relentless.

DELROY
You're the monster! You're the
monster!

Max goes limp. Delroy lets go, and Max lays dead. Delroy
breathes heavy and steps back, observing what he has done.

EXT. DESERT CLIFF - NIGHT

Tom, ducking low, looks out over the edge of a small cliff.
In the distance, a small campfire. Around the fire sits
Bill, Angela, and Rider. Rider's hands are roped behind him.

TOM
What the hell?

Angela's head is turned in his direction and she stares
directly at his location.

EXT. CAMPFIRE - NIGHT

Angela stares off into the night. Rider is mesmerized by the
fire and Bill leans back on a rock, comfortable. Bill looks
at Angela.

BILL
Something out there?

ANGELA
Nope.

BILL
What you starin' at?

ANGELA
Nothing.

BILL
Don't lie to me.

ANGELA
Shut up and go to sleep, Bill.

BILL
Well now you got me all worried and-

Angela turns to Bill.

ANGELA
I said there ain't nothin' out
there. I was in a good stare and
you ruined it. Now leave me alone.

Angela turns back and continues her stare. Bill turns to
Rider.

BILL
So. You mind tellin' me where
we're headed?

RIDER
To where the gun is.

BILL
Well, no s**t. Where's the gun at?

RIDER
It's in Brooklyn.

Bill erupts with laughter.

EXT. DESERT CLIFF - NIGHT

Tom looks on as Angela stares into him. Bill's laughter is
loud and it echoes throughout the area.

TOM
What the hell is so damn funny?
And what are you staring at, woman?

EXT. CAMPFIRE - NIGHT

Bill stops laughing for a beat to catch his breath. He's
panting from laughing so hard.

ANGELA
Could you shut up, please?

BILL
Did you hear what he said?
Brooklyn!

Angela pays no attention.

RIDER
What's so funny?

BILL
What's so funny about that? I'll
tell you what's so funny about
that. We came a long way to find
you, ya know? A long, long way.
Know where we came from?

RIDER
I don't know. Brooklyn?

Bill laughs again.

BILL
You bet your a*s we did. You bet
your a*s..

Rider doesn't react. Tired, he closes his eyes.

EXT. DESERT CLIFF - NIGHT

Tom runs down the hill quietly and walks further around.
He's careful not to make a sound while walking in the dark.
Finally reaching a large rock, he peers around from behind
it.

TOM
Hah, you see me don't you? Son of
a b***h..

Angela's head is turned, and she stares in Tom's direction,
right into his eyes.

INT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - 10 YEARS EARLIER - DAY

Rider, 11, sits in a chair reading a book. Doris stands by
the fireplace, stirring a bowl that dangles over an open
fire.

RIDER
Mama?

DORIS
Yes?

RIDER
I don't want to stay out here
anymore.

DORIS
I know you don't. I don't want to
either.

RIDER
Why don't we do something?

Doris turns to Rider.

DORIS
What do you mean?

RIDER
We should make papa let us go. Or
just leave.

DORIS
You know papa won't ever let us go.
And it's too dangerous out there.
We're surrounded by wolves. We
can't get out of here unless your
papa takes us with him.

RIDER
Well I wish he would.

Doris stands up and walks to her bed. She sits down.

DORIS
Come here, baby.

Rider walks over to Doris. He sits on the bed and rests his
head on her lap. She puts her hands through his hair.

DORIS (CONT'D)
One of these days, we'll get out of
here, you'll see. You'll grow up
to be a strong, brave man that will
save your mama, won't you?

RIDER
Yes, mama.

DORIS
I trust that when the time comes,
you'll take care of us. Until
then, I'm gonna have to take care
of you.

RIDER
I know, mama.

DORIS
No more worries, bumble bee. We'll
be fine, I promise. Okay?

RIDER
Okay.

Rider stands up and kisses his mom on the forehead.

RIDER (CONT'D)
I'm going to go outside for a
little while.

DORIS
Just don't go far again, okay?

RIDER
Yes, mama.

Rider exits.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - CONTINUOUS

Rider steps outside and walks to the front yard. He looks
over in the direction he found the gun and bites his lip.

He sprints in that direction.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS - CONTINUOUS

Rider runs furiously, breathing heavy and determined. He
runs a good distance until:

SMACK!

Rider runs directly into another person, WALLACE, a thirty
year-old man in overalls and a cowboy hat. They both stumble
backwards from the collision.

They look at each other and Rider's eyes widen, nervous at
the sight of this stranger. He turns to run, but Wallace
speaks.

WALLACE
Hey, boy! Wait, don't go! I won't
harm ya!

Wallace searches around him until he spots a piece of paper
on the ground. He picks it up, folds it, and puts it in his
pocket.

RIDER
Who are you?

WALLACE
Oh, I'm just a seeker of fine
treasures. A jack of all trades
with plenty'a notches on my belt.
Name's Wallace. Please to meet ya,
young friend.

Wallace offers a hand. Rider excepts it.

WALLACE (CONT'D)
You wouldn't happen to live around
here, would ya now?

RIDER
I uh.. Yeah, I..

Rider points over his shoulder.

WALLACE
Oh, well that's just perfect! Care
to spare a few biscuits my way? I
seem to be almost all out of
energy. Be glad to provide some
housework in return for your
hospitality.

RIDER
Yeah.. Sure. This way.

Rider walks towards the house and Wallace follows him.

INT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - DAY

Doris is stirring a soup over the fire when she hears the
door creak open slowly. She looks over her shoulder and sees
Rider slip in slowly.

DORIS
Back so soon?

RIDER
Um.. Mama. I got something to
tell you.

DORIS
What is it?

RIDER
There's a man outside. He needs
food.

Doris turns and looks at Rider in disbelief.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - CONTINUOUS

The door opens and Doris steps outside. Rider stands behind
her. At the bottom of the steps is Wallace, smiling;
pleasant.

WALLACE
Hello, ma'am! I was just wonder-

DORIS
Who are you? What do you want?

WALLACE
Oh, well.. I was just in the area,
and found your boy here perusing
through the woods.

Doris looks down at Rider, not happy.

WALLACE(CONT'D)
And I said to myself, "Wallace,
what would a fine boy like this be
doing in the woods all alone like?
He must live around here."
Thankfully I was right, and he
brought me here to your humble
home.

DORIS
Well what can I do for you?

WALLACE
I was just wondering if you might
spare some food is all. I've been
out in these woods for quite some
time now and I sure am hungry.

Doris squints an eye at him and thinks it over.

DORIS
Alright, but you can't stay long.
Eat, then leave.

WALLACE
I promise not to stay long, ma'am.

Wallace walks onto the porch and they enter the house.

INT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - NIGHT

Rider, Doris and Wallace sit at the table and enjoy their
soup. Wallace has removed his hat.

WALLACE
This is mighty fine soup you've
made here, ma'am.

DORIS
Thank you. Do you mind if I ask
you a question?

WALLACE
Not at all. Go right ahead.

DORIS
What are you doing out in these
woods? They're dangerous, you
know.

WALLACE
Don't I know it! But it'll be
worth it in the end.. I'm
searching for treasure!

Rider smiles widely.

RIDER
For treasure?!

WALLACE
Yes, sir!

DORIS
What kind of treasure do you expect
to find out here?

WALLACE
You wouldn't believe me if I told
ya.

DORIS
Try me.

Wallace reaches into his back pocket. He pulls out the
folded piece of paper and holds it up into the air.

WALLACE
Treasure map!

RIDER
Wow!

Rider grabs it and unfolds it. He looks at it, compelled.

DORIS
You're searching for a treasure
map?

Wallace laughs.

WALLACE
No, ma'am. I'm searching for a
gun.

Rider stops looking at the map and slowly peers up at
Wallace.

DORIS
A gun? That's not a treasure. You
can buy those in town.

WALLACE
No ma'am, not like this one. This
one is mighty special.

Wallace looks down at Rider, smiles and opens his eyes wide.

WALLACE (CONT'D)
This gun never misses!

Rider, astonished, drops his jaw.

Doris laughs from the gut.

WALLACE (CONT'D)
You don't believe me?

DORIS
There's no such thing as a gun that
can't miss. How could that be
possible?

WALLACE
Oh, well that's an old injun
secret. No one knows. But I can
promise that once I get my hands on
it, I'll be unstoppable.

DORIS
What you need to be unstoppable
for?

WALLACE
I'll tell you why. My brother, he
ain't right in the head. People
always make fun of him. Once I get
this pistol, nobody gonna mess with
him anymore.

Doris smiles.

DORIS
Well, ain't that noble of you.

Wallace smiles back.

WALLACE
Well thank ya, ma'am.

Rider looks up at Doris, lightbulb over his head.

RIDER
Mama!

DORIS
What is it, bumble bee?

RIDER
Maybe he can help us!

Doris frowns and stands up. She goes to put her empty bowl
away.

DORIS
There isn't anything we need help
with, Rider.

WALLACE
Help ya'll with what? What can I
do?

RIDER
It's my papa. He keeps us out
here.

DORIS
RIDER!

Doris, incensed, gives Rider a disapproving frown.

WALLACE
I'm sorry, ma'am. Now I have to
know what your boy here is talking
about. What's your husband doing?

DORIS
He doesn't know what he's talking
about.

WALLACE
What can I do? Y'all helped me in
my time of need, I'm obliged to
return the favor in any way.

RIDER
My papa keeps us here because he
doesn't want anybody to know about
us.

DORIS
Rider, I ain't gonna tell you one
more time.

WALLACE
He keeps you here? What for?

DORIS
Don't listen to him. We live out
here, and that's that.

WALLACE
Ma'am, you can tell me the truth.
Once I get the gun I can come back
and-

DORIS
Please, we don't need any help.
We're fine, thank you. Now I think
it's best you be on your way.

Wallace stands up slowly.

WALLACE
Well, I have a feeling the booty is
close by. So I'll be around if ya
need me. All ya gotta do is
holler.

DORIS
Thank you.

Wallace nods his head at Doris, then smiles at Rider and
kneels down.

WALLACE
You be good now, okay?
(in a whisper)
Don't forget to holler.

Rider smiles, and Wallace winks.

Then, the door opens.

In the doorway is John, holding some vegetables and bottles
of milk. He sees Wallace kneeling down in front of Rider.

They all turn and see John, surprised. Wallace stands up.

DORIS
John, let me explain. I-

JOHN
Shut up.

John pulls out his revolver and aims it at Wallace. As he
pulls the trigger, Rider runs towards him and shoves him into
the wall, causing his aim to fail and shoot Wallace in the
leg.

Wallace shouts in pain and falls to the floor.

John grabs Rider by the hair. Doris grabs a sewing needle
from the table.

JOHN
Get off me, you little a*****e.

John tosses Rider to the ground. Doris lunges at John and
stabs him in his left eye with the sewing needle. He screams
in agony as they both fall to the ground, Doris on top.

Insane with rage, Doris grinds the needle in harder as John
writhes in pain.

DORIS
Die, you son of a b***h..

BANG. A gunshot. Doris's eyes open wide and she goes limp.

RIDER
No!

Rider stands up and runs to John. John pushes Doris off of
him, quickly sits up, and punches Rider in the face, knocking
him out. Wallace struggles to stand and leaps for John,
pushing him against the wall. John jabs his pistol into
Wallace's chest and pulls the trigger.

Wallace falls to the ground, dead.

John reaches for the needle and pulls it out, screaming in
agony. He throws it on the ground and blood squirts from his
eye socket. He looks down with his good eye at Rider,
unconscious on the ground, and aims his gun at him. He
breathes heavy, and hesitates. He puts it away then walks
out the door.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - CONTINUOUS

John, holding onto his eye with one hand, walks to his horse
and pulls a flask out of his satchel. He walks back to the
house.

INT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - CONTINUOUS

John enters and walks towards the bed. He pours the contents
of his flask on the bed and splashes it around the house. He
throws the flask to the side. He reaches into his pocket and
pulls out a match. He lights it, throws the match on the bed
and it catches fire.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - NIGHT

John sits on his horse, nursing his eye. With his remaining
eye, he watches the house burn. Disgusted, he turns and
rides off.

INT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - NIGHT

Fire surrounds Rider. He begins to stir and rubs his eyes
awake. Grasping the gravity of the situation, he runs to his
mother and shakes her. She's lifeless. He runs to Wallace
and shakes him. Same result.

Looking around, he spots the door, breaking away from the
flames. The door frame begins to crack and fall apart.
Rider runs and jumps through the flames out the door.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

Rider lands on the porch and rolls onto the grass in front.
He sits and watches as his home falls apart.

EXT. DESERT CLIFF - 10 YEARS LATER - MORNING

Tom lays on the ground, asleep. A foot nudges him in his
side. It belongs to Angela. He opens his eyes.

ANGELA
Good morning.

TOM
S**t.

Tom sits up, leans against the rock, and rubs the sleep out
of his eyes.

ANGELA
You should go back before Bill
finds out you followed us.

TOM
What's Bill gonna do?

ANGELA
He's going to kill you.

TOM
Fair enough. But I ain't leavin'
until you give me Rider back.

ANGELA
It's not gonna happen. I can
guarantee it.

TOM
Well then it looks like Bill is
gonna have to kill me.

Angela take out her pistol, kneels down and digs the end of
the barrel into his left thigh.

ANGELA
I can't let you follow us. Do you
understand?

TOM
Why don't you just kill me then?

Angela smiles. She leans forward and kisses him on the lips.
While they kiss, she pulls the trigger and shoots him in the
thigh. He squirms, but she leans in further, pinning his
head against the rock. Tom makes an effort to scream but she
doesn't let loose. Tears form in his eyes as they kiss.

Putting her hand to his mouth, she lets go.

ANGELA
Don't make a sound now.

Before she stands, she grabs Tom's revolver and takes it off
him. She gets up and Tom grabs his leg, moaning quietly in
pain.

Angela walks away and heads to Tom's horse. She unbuckles
the saddle, throws it on the ground and walks away with his
horse.

EXT. CAMPFIRE - MORNING

Angela walks back with the horse. Bill and Rider are already
awake.

BILL
What was all that shooting? And
where the hell did you get that
horse?

ANGELA
There was an Indian passing
through. Shot him off his horse,
but he ran off before I could get
to him.

BILL
What were you doing shootin' at
injuns for? You crazy?

ANGELA
Rider needs his own horse. I can't
carry him on the back of mine
anymore.

BILL
Well we better get goin' before
that injun comes back with his
friends.

Bill and Angela pack their things while Rider watches in
silence, hands still tied behind him

INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE - DAY

Abby enters the sheriff's office and finds Jem looking out of
a window. He turns from it and smiles at her.

JEM
Pleased to see ya this morning,
miss Abby.

ABBY
Have you seen Tom? Is he back yet?

JEM
Nope. Ain't see him.

ABBY
You have to go find him.

JEM
There's no way. It's too
dangerous. Besides, somebody's
gotta watch over Rabbitville.

Jem walks up to her. He stands a couple inches away and
looks her up and down.

JEM
And somebody's gotta watch over
you.

Abby back away. Jem walks closer and she puts her hand to
his chest.

ABBY
No, I'm gonna go find him. If
you're not going, I'm going.

JEM
You ain't goin' nowhere.

Jem grabs Abby's wrist.

ABBY
Stop it, Jem! You're hurting me!

Jem, still holding on to her wrist, pushes her against the
wall and leans in behind her ear. He whispers.

JEM
I don't think Tom is coming back,
pretty Miss Abby. You're stuck
here with me now. Don't worry.
I'll take care of you.

He kisses her behind her ear, but is stopped short when she
knees him between the legs.

While Jem screams in pain and grabs his balls, Abby tries to
run away. Jem grabs her by the dress and pulls her back. It
tears.

ABBY
Get off of me!

Abby reaches over to the table and grabs a coffee mug. She
smashes it against the side of hia head. It breaks, and
scalding coffee pours down his shoulders. He yelps and falls
to the ground.

Abby runs out the door.

INT. MAX'S BEDROOM - DAY

Delroy sits in the chair in the corner, staring at the
ground. In the bed lays Max, petrified, with his mouth open.

A few moments go by, then there's a knock at the door.
Delroy doesn't move.

A few more moments go by, and then more knocking.

Delroy looks up. He walks out of the room.

EXT. SAMUELS FARM - DAY

Delroy opens the door. Standing out front is Abby. Behind
her, a horse.

ABBY
Hi.

Delroy, looking like a zombie, just stares at her.

ABBY (CONT'D)
How ya doin', Delroy?

Abby laughs nervously.

ABBY (CONT'D)
Is it true what I heard? Someone
kidnapped Rider?

Delroy nods his head.

ABBY (CONT'D)
Tom went after them?

Delroy nods his head.

ABBY (CONT'D)
You know which way they went?

Delroy points behind the house.

ABBY (CONT'D)
Okay. Well thank you much.

Abby gets on her horse. She readies the reigns.

DELROY
Take me with you.

Abby lowers the reigns and looks at Delroy.

ABBY
You wanna tag along?

DELROY
I can help you.

ABBY
What about your daddy?

DELROY
He dead.

Abby gasps.

ABBY
Oh my, did they kill him?

Delroy nods his head yes.

DELROY
I'm alone.

Abby ponders this for a moment.

ABBY
You got a gun?

Delroy nods his head and runs in the house. Abby looks
around as she waits. Delroy finally runs back out with a
shotgun. He hands it to her.

DELROY
Here you go.

She looks at it, eyes squinting.

ABBY
Got any shells?

Delroy smiles and runs back into the house. After another
moment, he comes out with a box of shotgun shells. He hands
the box to her.

DELROY
Here ya go.

ABBY
Well I guess I gotta take ya now,
don't I?

Delroy nods his head and smiles. Abby grabs his arm and
helps him get on back.

EXT. ROCKY DESERT - DAY

Angela and Bill ride side-by-side with Rider, hands tied
behind his back, riding in front of them.

BILL
The whole time. Right under our
noses.

ANGELA
Will you get off it already? We
still don't know where it is, and
wouldn't be able to find it without
him anyway.

BILL
Rider, if something happens to you,
it'd be better if we knew where to
find it.

RIDER
Guess you'd better make sure
nothing happens to me.

Bill laughs.

BILL
I like you. More than I did your
father.

RIDER
How did you know my father?

BILL
Used to be sheriff of Brooklyn.
But I'm sure you knew that.

RIDER
Nope. I wonder who he had to
murder to get that position.

BILL
Well, it was murder that got him
out of it. Went insane. Started
killin' innocent townsfolk for
nothin'. We were hired to go down
there and take him out.

RIDER
He was always insane. Don't know
why it took everyone so long to
figure it out.

BILL
When we found him we held on to him
for a bit. After some time, he
started spoutin' about how his son
tried to kill him a hundred years
ago.

Rider flinches.

BILL (CONT'D)
Not only that, but he described the
gun his son tried to do it with.
I'll be damned if he didn't
describe The Green Army to a tee.

RIDER
The Green Army?

BILL
Yup. The cute little gun you
became best friends with.

RIDER
How do you know about it? About
what it does?

BILL
Always have. Angela here grew up
with the injuns. The gun was a
popular myth. Ain't nobody ever
seen it though.

RIDER
I seen it.

BILL
And so did your daddy. So me and
Angela here decided it's time to
retire. Hard to believe you didn't
take it with you, though.

RIDER
That gun shouldn't be in anyone's
hands. It makes you evil.

ANGELA
Don't matter too much if you
already are.

Bill cackles. Rider closes his eyes.

EXT. WEBB HOMESTEAD - 10 YEARS EARLIER - MORNING

The sound of the woods coming to life wakens Rider. He opens
his eyes, looks around, and sees the remains of his home.
His overalls are slightly burned, and his face is dirty.

He stands and walks over to what was once his home.
Everything is burnt to a crisp. He sees the skeletal remains
of Wallace and his mother.

Emotionless, he turns and walks into the woods.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS - CONTINUOUS

Rider walks slowly through the trees. He looks down at his
feet and quickens his pace.

He continues to speed up until he's running. He's still
looking down.

Finally, he stops and kneels down. He's found the stone.

He moves the stone, removes the box, opens it and pulls out
The Green Army. He takes a moment to marvel at its splendor.
He releases the barrel and sees inside that all 6 cylinders
are loaded. He pops the barrel back in and stands up.

Suddenly, he hears footsteps in the distance. He puts The
Green Army inside his overalls. He runs.

He runs a long time, nervous, until he sees something far
off. He stops and looks. It's a child. It's Delroy, 7
years old. Rider walks over to him. Delroy is sitting on
the ground playing with sticks.

RIDER
Hi. Are you alone?

Delroy looks up and smiles wide.

DELROY
Hiiiiii.

RIDER
Are you lost?

MAX (O.S.)
Hello!

Max, younger and more nimble, walks up to them carrying some
branches. He drops them. Rider grasps the bulge of The
Green Army in his overalls.

RIDER
Uh, hi. Uh..

MAX
You live out here?

RIDER
Yes, sir I- well.. I did.

MAX
Well it's a pleasure to meet you.
I'm Max.

Max hold out his hand and Rider excepts it. Max points to
Delroy.

MAX (CONT'D)
This here's my boy, Delroy. He's a
little slow, but I love him just
the same.

Max ruffles Delroy's hair. Delroy smiles at Max.

RIDER
I'm Rider.

Max sits down on a log.

MAX
Hello, Rider. So if you don't live
out here anymore, why ya stickin'
around?

RIDER
I ain't got a home anymore. It
burnt down.

MAX
Oh, well I'm terribly sorry to hear
that. Where's your family?

RIDER
I ain't got a family.

Max looks down at the ground and hums to himself.

MAX
Well that ain't right. If you'd
like, you can stay with us for a
little while.

RIDER
I would like that.

MAX
Oh, sure. We won't be out here for
much longer anyhow. Once we find
my other boy, Wallace, we're
headin' right back to Brooklyn.

Rider looks up, startled.

RIDER
Wallace?

MAX
Yup. That's my boy. Said he was
lookin' for something out here. Had
a map some injun gave him. He'd
been gone for a few days so me and
Delroy here came to find him. You
seen anyone?

Rider's eyes search around nervously. He shakes his head no.

RIDER
No. I ain't seen nobody.

MAX
Oh well. We'll give him another
day or two.

Max stands back up and starts piling the branches and twigs
together.

RIDER
You said you were going to
Brooklyn?

MAX
That's right.

Rider grabs protectively to the bulge of the gun.

RIDER
You think you could take me there?

MAX
Of course.

Max smiles. Rider returns the smile.

EXT. DESERT - 10 YEARS LATER - DAY

Tom limps slowly through a barren desert plain, sweating.
His right pant leg has been ripped off past the knee and is
wrapped around his thigh.

He wipes some sweat from his brow and looks up to see a horse
riding towards him from the distance. He sits on his butt
and waits for it to arrive.

Once the horse comes clearer into view, he notices it's Abby
and Delroy. He lets out a great sigh of relief and lies
down.

ABBY
Tom?! Tom, is that you?!

Tom laughs. The horse is near, and Abby stops, jumps off and
runs to him. He sits up. She hugs him and they lay on the
ground, holding eachother

ABBY (CONT'D)
Oh, you're okay!

TOM
Kinda sorta okay.

They sit up.

ABBY
What happened? Tell me what
happened! Oh, I missed you!

She kisses him. He laughs.

TOM
Got me in the leg.

Abby looks down at his thigh and notices the wound.

ABBY
Who did this to you?

TOM
It don't matter. Let's just go
back now.

ABBY
Tom, I said who did this to you?

TOM
One of them bounty hunters did.

ABBY
What was his name? I'll kill the
b*****d!

TOM
Um, I believe it's Angela.

Abby isn't happy.

ABBY
Let's go.

Abby stands up and goes to the horse. She grabs the shotgun
and c***s it.

ABBY (CONT'D)
This b***h is gonna die.

Tom laughs and stands up.

TOM
That's nice, honey, but if we don't
get back to town soon I'm gonna
die. Here, give me that shotgun
'fore you hurt yourself.

Abby walks to Tom, but trips over a rock. The shotgun hits
the ground and fires. Tom ducks.

The horse's head explodes and falls to the ground taking
Delroy with him. Delroy screams on the way down.

Abby and Tom stare at the dead horse and watch as Delroy
stands up and wipes his pants. It's silent for a while.

TOM
That horse. Was that mine?

Abby fake smiles.

ABBY
It was. Where's your other one?

TOM
She took it.

A kettle of vultures scream in the distance.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS - EVENING

Bill, Angela, and Rider ride slowly through the woods. Bill
and Angela look around cautiously. Rider's hands are tied in
front of him. The sun is setting and it's getting dark.

ANGELA
We need to set up camp.

Bill ignores Angela.

BILL
(to Rider)
Is it true what your daddy told me?
About you?

RIDER
What did he tell you?

BILL
That he kept you and your mama out
here alone. So you wouldn't bother
him.

RIDER
I'm starting to wonder what he
didn't tell you.

BILL
Sounds dirty rotten to me. Bein'
embarrassed of your family enough
to hide 'em away.

RIDER
Well I guess you would know all
about dirty rotten, wouldn't you?

BILL
Is that why ya did it? Were you
trying to kill him?

RIDER
Why do you wanna know so much?
What do you care?

BILL
I love a good story, is all. This
is one of the best ones I've heard
in awhile.

ANGELA
I know a better one.

BILL
What's that?

ANGELA
Once upon a time, there were three
people travelin' through the woods
talking about good stories, all the
while bein' hunted by wolves.

Angela takes out her revolver.

BILL
You're kidding me.

She turns to Bill.

ANGELA
Get down.

Bill ducks and a WOLF springs from behind a tree, aiming for
him. Angela shoots, and the wolf is cut off in mid-air.

RIDER
Oh s**t!

Bill pulls out his revolver and looks around. The sound of
wolves growling surrounds them. Angela and Bill search
around desperately.

Out of the trees, another WOLF springs and latches his jaw
onto Rider's horse. Rider yelps and the horse is taken down.

Bill and Angela shoot at it, hitting it and the horse.
Rider's leg is stuck underneath. Before they have a chance
to regain their composure, another WOLF springs out and
latches onto Bill's arm, pulling him off the horse.

Angela is distracted by another WOLF on her side, and shoots
it dead.

Bill wrestles with the wolf and punches it. It lets go and
Bill kicks it in the face. It yelps, and Bill pulls off a
shot in time, killing it,

There are no more wolves. Angela gets off her horse and
walks to Bill. He's out of breath.

ANGELA
You okay?

BILL
Not quite. Bit me in the arm.

RIDER
I'm stuck.

Angela looks over to Rider and runs to him. She lifts the
horse and pulls him out.

ANGELA
That sheriff ain't gonna like this.

RIDER
What?

ANGELA
Nothing.

RIDER
You just said, 'that sheriff ain't
gonna like this.' What does that
mean?

BILL (O.S.)
What are you two talkin' about?

Angela puts her hand on Rider's mouth and leans in close.

ANGELA
Shhh.. Say anything, and I'll
accidently shoot you in the foot.

Rider's eyes are open wide, but when Angela removes her hand
he stays quiet. She walks over to Bill. He's standing and
grabbing onto his bloody arm.

BILL
Think it's about time to set up
camp.

ANGELA
(sarcastically)
Ya think?

Rider stands up, rubs his thigh and moans in pain. He looks
around with an expression of recognition, and despair hits
him like a hammer. He sits back on the ground, and pats the
dead horse.

RIDER
I thought you looked familiar, boy.
Gonna miss ya.

Rider shuts his eyes and lays down.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS - 10 YEARS EARLIER - NIGHT

Rider and Max sit around a fire. Delroy sleeps. Rider pokes
at the fire with a branch.

MAX
I don't think we should stay out
here much longer. Keep hearin' the
sound of wolves playin' around us.

RIDER
There's tons of 'em out here, sir.
Gets real scary at nite.

MAX
Well I'll bet you're glad you found
us then, eh?

RIDER
Sure am.

MAX
Rider?

RIDER
Yes?

MAX
You mind tellin' me what happened
to your family?

Rider looks down at the ground. He plays with the fire some
more.

RIDER
They all died in the fire.

MAX
That's terrible, son. Mighty
terrible. Ya know, you don't
strike me as too troublesome of a
child.

RIDER
No, my mama taught me well.

MAX
You're daddy never taught you
nothin'?

RIDER
Yeah, he taught me a whole bunch.
Taught me how to not be a bad
person.

MAX
Sounds like a good man to me. It's
so easy to be bad nowadays, but
that's not how I teach my boys.
Gotta turn the other cheek, just
like Jesus always said.

RIDER
Jesus?

MAX
You ain't never head of Jesus, boy?

RIDER
Yeah, mama told me about him, but I
don't know too much.

MAX (CONT'D)
Well, that's alright. The most
important thing that you can ever
learn is that nothin' good can ever
come out of being spiteful.

RIDER
That's the most important thing for
me to learn?

Max laughs.

MAX
I'm sure there's more things out
there at least equally important,
but it's real easy to be mad, and
it's really easy to be mean.

Max shakes his fist.

MAX (CONT'D)
No sir, no good ever came outta
bein' spiteful. We are who we are
and that's that. No sir, we can't
help it. Ain't no good to be
judgin' a human for bein' a human.

RIDER
Are you a preacher, mister?

Max laughs.

MAX
Nope. Do I sound like one?

Rider smiles.

RIDER
You sure do, mister.

Max lays on his back and puts his hands underneath his head.

MAX
Rider, I think you're a swell kid.
If you ain't got nowhere to go
after Brooklyn, you're more than
welcome to stick with us. That is,
if you'd like to.

Rider smiles and lays down.

RIDER
I sure would.

Rider grabs the bulge of The Green Army, and his smile turns
to worry. He shuts his eyes.

EXT. DESERT CAVE - 10 YEARS LATER - NIGHT

Abby, Delroy, and Tom are huddled together near the mouth of
a small cave, dimly lit by the glow of the moon.

ABBY
Well this is a fine mess you've got
us in, Tom.

TOM
What? I didn't ask you to blow the
head off my horse!

ABBY
Yeah, well, nobody asked you to
come out here by yourself and risk
your life. If we didn't come,
who'd save you?

Tom laughs.

TOM
Well, I don't think we're too far
from town now. When the morning
comes we'll continue walking and be
back home before we know it.

DELROY
We have to save Rider.

ABBY
Honey, we'd love to, but Tom is
injured and we have to get him
fixed up.

DELROY
Well I'm gonna find Rider tomorrow.

TOM
Delroy, you're coming back with us.

DELROY
No! I'm going to find my brother!

TOM
Delroy, you'll die out here by
yourself! There's no way-

BANG! A gunshot in the distance. Yelling. The sound of
horses hooves stomping in the dirt.

BANG! Another gunshot.

ABBY
What was that?

TOM
Company.

DELROY
If you guys aren't going to take me
to Rider, I'm going to ask for
help.

Delroy stands up and runs.

TOM
Delroy, get back here!

Tom reaches for Delroy, but he's out of his reach by then.
Delroy disappears into the darkness.

TOM (CONT'D)
Damn it! I'll be back.

Tom grabs the shotgun and stands up. Abby grabs Tom by the
sleeve.

ABBY
Don't go! It ain't safe!

DELROY
I know, and Delroy's out there.
I'll be back. And stay put!

Tom leans down and kisses Abby. He turns and runs off. She
starts to bite her nails, waiting. After a couple of moments
there's evident yelling and hollering coming from the dark.
Abby's bites her nails faster from worry.

There's a gunshot.

ABBY
Jesus!

There's more hollering.

ABBY (CONT'D)
What the hell is going on?

The shouting gets louder and there's another gunshot. Then,
silence. Abby sits up and tries to see what's going on.
It's too dark, but she continues to try.

It's eerily quiet.

ABBY (CONT'D)
Damn it.

Abby gets up and walks into the darkness.

EXT. DESERT - NIGHT

Abby walks past a large rock and sees the vast clearing
illuminated by the moonlight. In the distance, she sees Tom
and Delroy with their hands on their heads, being held at
gunpoint by ZEKE, a a large, bearded man on a horse. Nearby,
a DEAD INDIAN lies on the ground.

Zeke looks over and sees Abby in the moonlight.

ZEKE
Hey! You over there!

Fear strikes Abby cold. She's frozen solid.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
Hey! Come on over here!

Abby walks slowly over to the group.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
Put your hands on your head!

Abby puts her hands on her head and is finally among them.

TOM
I told you to stay put, Abby.

ABBY
I'm sorry, I was wor-

ZEKE
Keep your mouth shut. All of you.
You're comin' with me.

DELROY
Where are we go-

ZEKE
I said keep your damn mouth shut,
boy. We been lookin' for you
three.

Zeke gets down off his horse and pulls some rope from his
satchel. He begins to tie everyone's hands behind their
backs.

TOM
Who are you?

ZEKE
Did I say you can ask questions?

TOM
We have a right to know what this
is all about.

ZEKE
This is about me takin' ya'll to
Brooklyn so's I can get paid.

TOM
Paid? For what?

ZEKE
Don't you know? There's a large
bounty on ya'lls heads. No more
questions now.

TOM
Bounty? But we don-

ZEKE
You say one more word and you're
gonna get it.

Zeke jerks around.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
Truman! Let's go!

From far off in the darkness, TRUMAN, a scruffy, young man
with a child-like face comes riding in on a horse, carrying
two horses along with him.

TRUMAN
Lookie what I got, Zeke!. I gots
both them injuns' horses.

ZEKE
That's great, but look what I got.

Truman looks Tom, Abby, and Delroy up and down.

TRUMAN
Well I'll be! You found all three
'a them suckers out here in the
middle of the desert! Woo hoo!

Truman laughs triumphantly, and Zeke points at Abby and
Delroy with his gun.

ZEKE
Alright, you two get on this horse
right here.

Zeke points to one of the horses, then walks to Tom.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
And you get on this other one over
here.

He points at the other horse. Zeke helps Tom get on his
horse. Truman helps Delroy and Abby.

TRUMAN
(to Abby)
My, you sure are a pretty little
thing.

Truman licks his lips.

TOM
Don't you talk to her.

ZEKE
What did I tell you? Keep your god
damned mouth shut.

Truman laughs and winks at Abby. She returns with a look of
disgust.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
Alright. You three ride in front.
We're going to Brooklyn, ya hear?

TOM
I'm tellin ya, you got-

ZEKE
God damn it!

Zeke jumps off his horse, walks up to Tom, takes out his
revolver and hits him on the back of the head. Abby gasps.

Unconscious, Tom leans over the neck of the horse.

ABBY
I'll kill you, you b*****d!

Zeke walks up to Abby and sticks his gun under her chin. She
quiets.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
Ya'll think I'm kiddin'. I ain't
kiddin'. Keep your mouth shut or
I'll do it for you. For Christ's
sake.

Truman snickers. Zeke jumps back on his horse and they ride.

EXT. FENRIS WOODS - DAY

Rider, Angela, and Bill continue to ride through the woods.

BILL
I couldn't sleep a wink last nite.
Too damn afraid 'a being attacked
by wolves.

ANGELA
I've never slept better.

BILL
Well that's good for you.

ANGELA
You see that?

Angela point to her left. Bill looks at the remains of a
campfire.

BILL
Yeah, so?

ANGELA
Someone's been through here
recently.

BILL
Is that so hard to believe?

ANGELA
Just makes me wonder how close we
are to whoever was there.

BILL
I'm sure we'll be just fine.
You're too damn paranoid.

ANGELA
Gotta be.

Suddenly, the three find themselves in a large clearing. The
grass is tall and there's plenty of weeds. The remains of a
house sit in the middle.

BILL
Well look at this. Looks like
someone used to live here.

Rider looks around, intrigued.

ANGELA
I say we take a break while we're
here.

BILL
I don't see why not. I'm hungry
anyway.

They stop. Angela and Bill get off their horses. Angela
helps Rider off his.

RIDER
You mind untying me, for the time
being? My wrists are killin' me.
I ain't going nowhere.

Angela looks at him, skeptical, but finally acquiesces and
unties him.

He rubs his wrists and looks around. Angela and Bill rummage
through their satchels, and Rider walks towards the remains
of the house.

When he gets close, something on the ground catches his eye.
He kneels down to get a closer look.

It's the pieces of his wooden voodoo doll, in the same
condition he left them. He picks them up and looks at them
for a moment.

He puts the pieces in his pocket, and stands back up. He
looks up to the sky and breathes deep. He shuts his eyes.

EXT. DESERT - 10 YEARS EARLIER - DAY

Rider, Max, and Delroy exit the woods. They glance around
the desert area.

MAX
Okay, now we just gotta find the
railroad.

RIDER
The railroad?

MAX
Yeah. How do you 'spect we get
back? Walk?

RIDER
I guess not.

They walk for awhile, the heavy sun beaming down on them.
From far off, the dark smoke from a steam engine rises into
the air. They hear the sound of a train screaming against
the tracks.

They all turn around and see the train coming into view.

MAX
You boys ready?

DELROY
The train! I love the train!

MAX
Okay, let's go!

Max grabs Delroy's hand and they start running way ahead of
the train. Rider takes a moment to digest what's going on.
Max turns his head while he runs with Delroy.

MAX
Come on, Rider! You gotta run!

Rider hesitates, then runs for it. He's a ways behind.

EXT. TRAIN TRACKS - CONTINUOUS

The train drives ahead, and Max and Delroy finally catch up.
Max jumps on the last car and pulls Delroy up with him.
Rider is still considerably far behind.

MAX
C'mon, Rider!

Rider sprints with all he has. He finally reaches them and
puts out his hand. Max and Delroy both put their hands out,
and their hands are an inch away from Rider's.

Rider keeps running as fast as he can, but a large rock on
the side of the track trips him up and he falls on his face.
The train moves ahead, leaving him behind.

MAX
Rider!

Rider stands up, nose bleeding, but it's too late to run.
The train is gone.

Rider wipes the dirt off his pants and the blood from his
face. He pats his chest and feels no bump.

He panics.

Looking around desperately, he sees a green and white object
a few yards behind him. He runs to it. It's The Green Army.

RIDER
There you are!

He takes a moment to analyze the gun again. He frowns.

RIDER (CONT'D)
You stupid thing. Probably don't
even work.

Rider throws the gun back to the ground and it fires. Sad,
he drops his head, picks it up, and follows the tracks.

INT. BOXCAR - DAY

Max and Delroy sit on some hay. In the corner is a DRUNKARD,
ragged and dirty.

DELROY
I miss Rider.

MAX
He'll find his way. He's a smart
boy.

The Drunkard stands up and walks to Max and Delroy.

DRUNKARD
This car ain't big enough for all
of us. Ya'll better get off now
'fore I slice yer throats.

MAX
Now listen here, mister, this here
train is movin' too fast and-

The Drunkard pulls out a large blade.

DRUNKARD
I said, get off this-

A hole pops open though the boxcar wall behind him and his
eyes open wide as a bullet pierces through his back, into his
heart. He falls to his knees. He stares wide-eyed at Max,
and some blood leaks from his mouth. He falls onto his face,
dead.

Flabbergasted, Max and Delroy stare at the lifeless body.
Holding onto their gaze, Max slowly kicks the Drunkard off
the boxcar. He falls onto the ground with a thump and rolls
away.

DELROY
Father-

MAX
I don't know.

They sit quietly.

EXT. DESERT - 10 YEARS LATER - DAY

Zeke, Truman, Abby, Tom, and Delroy ride through the barren
desert. The sun beams down heavy and everyone is sweating.
Truman takes a large swig from a canteen. He burps.

DELROY
Mister, could I have some of your
water?

Truman smirks and waves the canteen in Delroy's face. Delroy
tries to wiggle his hands free from the ropes.

TRUMAN
What's the matter, boy? Don't ya
want some of my water?

Truman wiggles it some more and laughs. Finally, he unscrews
the cap and put it to Delroy's mouth. Delroy chugs, and
Truman looks on in disbelief.

Delroy finishes it and Truman puts it away, still in
disbelief.

TRUMAN
Boy, don't you know you just drank
a canteen fulla whiskey?

Delroy burps. Abby and Tom turn and look at Delroy, worried.
Zeke laughs.

DELROY
What's whiskey?

Zeke laughs harder. Delroy falls off the horse. Abby gasps,
Truman and Zeke crack up.

ABBY
Delroy!

Delroy looks up, his eyes open in slits.

DELROY
Abby! You're so pretty, miss Abby!

ABBY
Oh, Delroy!

TOM
C'mon! Pick him up, for Christ's
sake!

Zeke and Truman try to stop laughing, but they can't. Zeke
gets off his horse and goes to pick up Delroy. Delroy kicks
him in the shin and he falls on his butt, grabbing his leg.
Truman cackles.

ZEKE
Son of a b***h!

Delroy runs into Truman's horse and pushes as hard as he can,
but the horse barely budges. Delroy falls down. Zeke grabs
his leg, moaning.

Truman's laughing is relentless. Delroy stands up and walks
to Abby.

DELROY
I'll kill them for you, miss Abby!
I can kill them! Just tell me to
and I'll kill them just like I did
father!

ABBY
Delroy! What are you talking
about?

Truman's laughing subsides and he gets off his horse. Zeke
is still moaning.

TRUMAN
Alright, kid. That's enough.

Delroy turns and runs up to Truman and kicks, but Delroy
grabs his leg and knocks him to the ground.

TRUMAN (CONT'D)
Alright, calm down now, I said.

Delroy sits up and tries to ram Truman.

DELROY
You never said dat!

Truman pushes him into the ground face first.

TOM
Let off of him! You got him drunk,
ya a*****e!

Truman chuckles to himself.

TRUMAN
Okay, boy. Get up.

Delroy tries to stand, but Truman knocks him down again.

TRUMAN
C'mon! Get up, I said!

Truman chuckles.

TOM
Let off him! Right now!

Delroy sits on the ground, panting, drunk and confused.
Truman looks at Tom.

TRUMAN
You wanna go? You wanna square off
with me?

TOM
Untie me first.

Truman licks his lips. Zeke stands up.

ZEKE
God damnit, Truman. What did I
tell you about drinking so much?
If you hurt any of these bounties,
I'll kill ya.

Truman and Tom stare off.

TRUMAN
You get to knock 'em around, but I
don't get to have any fun?

DELROY
I love you, miss Abby!

ABBY
Delroy, get over here!

Delroy stands up and hobbles over to Abby. He rests his head
on her leg. Truman walks slowly towards Tom as they stare
intently at each other.

Zeke runs up to Truman and grabs him by the collar. They
face off.

ZEKE
Get on your horse right now before
I murder ya.

TRUMAN
I'd like to see you try it.

ZEKE
I'll bet you would.

Truman glances at Tom, then back at Zeke. Reluctantly, he
walks back to his horse. Zeke helps Delroy back up. Delroy
smiles drunkenly at Abby and she returns with a concerned
smile.

ZEKE (CONT'D)
(to Truman)
You and your god damned whiskey.

Zeke jumps back on his horse and they ride on.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF BROOKLYN - DAY

Bill on his horse, and behind him, Angela on hers. Rider
sits behind Angela.

BILL
Ain't too much farther now. You
gonna tell me where it is?

RIDER
In due time.

BILL
Well, I'd say right about now is
due time, wouldn't you agree?

RIDER
Apparently I wouldn't.

Bill chuckles.

BILL
That's alright. Do you wanna know
what's gonna happen to you if you
lead us astray?

RIDER
I wanna know what's gonna happen if
I don't.

BILL
Well, that's easy. We're gonna let
you go, no questions asked.

RIDER
What are you gonna do with the gun?

BILL
That don't concern you. All you
need to know is we'll leave you
alone.

RIDER
I don't believe you.

BILL
You think it matters much to me
whether or not you believe me?

RIDER
I suppose not.

BILL
You suppose correctly.

A moment of silence.

RIDER
So what are you gonna do if I lead
you astray?

BILL
I'm gonna cut off your balls and
shove 'em down your throat.

Rider laughs.

RIDER
Remind me not to lead you astray.

ANGELA
Look.

Angela points ahead. Bill and Rider turn and see the outline
of a large town forming in the distance.

ANGELA
Brooklyn.

BILL
There she is. When's the last time
you been here, Rider?

RIDER
Not since I was a boy.

Rider shuts his eyes.

EXT. TRAIN TRACKS - 10 YEARS EARLIER - DAY

Rider watches his feet as he follows the tracks. He looks up
and sees Brooklyn in the distance. He smiles and runs.

EXT. BROOKLYN MAIN STREET - DAY

Rider walks into town. It's a bustling town with many people
going about their business. The sight of so many people in
one place is a lot for him and he takes it in with a large
grin.

He walks down the street and various people nod in his
direction and say hello. He returns the greetings.

He takes a seat on a stoop in front of the post office and
looks around. His eyes stop in the distance when he sees,
walking down the street, John, smiling, with an eye-patch
over his eye.

Rider's smile turns to sickened gloom, and he stands up. The
sight of his father ignites fire in his eyes, and he feels
his pocket for The Green Army.

With his eyes fixated on John, Rider instinctively takes out
the gun and aims it at him. Nobody seems to notice. Rider's
hands shake as he aims the revolver at his father. He pulls
back the hammer. He continues to shake.

John, smiling and going about his day tips his hat to a
PRETTTY YOUNG WOMAN walking by. She smiles and nods back to
him, but is quickly cut short when:

BANG! Everyone around ducks, and John looks up to see the
Pretty Young Woman, wide-eyed, fall to her knees. There is
screaming heard from all around and people run and panic.

Rider stands with the gun aimed, and it hits him what has
happened. A look of despair overcomes him and he notices
another MAN training a gun on him from close by. Rider
quickly turns to him, c***s The Green Army, shoots, and the
man falls to the ground with a shot to the heart.

Rider runs inside the Post Office.

INT. BROOKLYN POST OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Rider kneels below the window, crying. He notices the Post
Office EMPLOYEE cowering behind the counter. Outside, there
is yelling and screaming.

Rider peeks outside, but before a second goes by a bullet
whizzes through the window. Pieces of shattered glass shower
over his head. Hysterical, he aims the gun over his head and
shoots out the window. The sound of a MAN yelping and
falling to the ground is heard.

From the back of the Post Office, SHERIFF JOHNSON, a dark
haired, strong man in his 40's bursts through a door and aims
his gun at Rider.

The Employee runs out the back door.

SHERIFF JOHNSON
Drop your weapon, son.

RIDER
Please, I didn't mean to shoot the
lady.

SHERIFF JOHNSON
It's okay, son. I know. Just hand
me your weapon.

Rider holds out The Green Army and Sheriff Johnson walks
close to him, but a stray bullet makes its way into the Post
Office and hits the Sheriff in the head, knocking him back,
dead.

RIDER
No!

Rider aim's his gun over his head and shoots again. There's
no more firing from outside. Rider sits and cries. He
searches the room desperately for an answer. Finally, he
puts the barrel into his mouth and pulls back the hammer.
Before he can pull the trigger the front door bursts open.
Standing in the doorway is John.

John knocks the gun away from Rider's face. It lands on the
ground. John stares at Rider's tear-soaked face.

JOHN
Rider. You come here to kill me?

Rider nods his head. John stares into him, then looks down
at The Green Army.

JOHN
Where'd you get that pretty green
weapon?

Rider doesn't move. John takes out his pistol and aims it at
Rider's head.

JOHN
I shoulda done this the last time I
had the chance.

MAX (O.S.)
Stop!

John looks out the door and sees Max running up to the Post
Office.

MAX (CONT'D)
Stop. He's with me.

John looks down at Rider and back at Max.

JOHN
What do you mean he's with you?

MAX
I said he's my responsibility.
Leave him alone.

Max turns to Rider and leans down to him.

MAX (CONT'D)
Rider, what's gotten into you?

Rider bursts into tears again. Max grabs his hand.

MAX (CONT'D)
C'mon. Come with me.

John places a hand on Max's shoulder, stopping him.

JOHN
Do me a favor. Leave this town and
take that boy with you. Come back,
and it'll be the end of both of
you.

MAX
That's fine. We won't be back.
Just let us be.

John looks at Rider scornfully with his eye, then exits the
Post Office.

MAX (CONT'D)
C'mon, Rider. We have to get out
of here.

Rider stands up.

RIDER
Wait a second.

Rider picks up The Green Army, looks at it, and thinks for a
second. He looks at Max, who is saddened and worried. He
looks back down at The Green Army, then walks over to the
corpse of Sheriff Johnson. He pulls the sheriff's revolver
out of its holster and replaces it with The Green Army.

MAX
Rider, what are you doing? We have
to go.

Rider and Max exit.

EXT. BROOKLYN MAIN STREET - 10 YEARS LATER - DAY

Angela, Bill, and Rider ride into town. It's still as
bustling and large as it ever was.

BILL
Alright, where is it?

RIDER
I can't tell you right now. We
have to wait until dark.

BILL
That's bullshit. You got somethin'
up your sleeve?

RIDER
I swear I don't. We just have to
wait until nite. Trust me.

Bill is visibly annoyed.

ANGELA
It's fine, Bill. We'll get a room
and keep him there until late.

BILL
Fine.

They ride to the hotel.

INT. BROOKLYN HOTEL BEDROOM - DAY

Angela, Bill, and Rider enter the room. Angela ties Rider to
one of the chairs.

BILL
You keep an eye on him. I'm
leaving.

ANGELA
Where are you going?

BILL
To get a drink.

ANGELA
Bill..

BILL
What?

ANGELA
Find Cody for me.

Bill exits.

Angela takes apart her gun and starts to clean it. Rider
stares at her.

RIDER
I'll tell you where it is. Just
let me go.

Angela smiles.

RIDER
Please. I won't lie to you. I
know Bill is going to kill me, and
I know you're not as bad as him.

Angela looks up from her gun.

ANGELA
If I let you go, Bill will know I
let you go. If that happens, he
will try to kill me. You know what
that means?

RIDER
What?

ANGELA
That I will have to kill him.

RIDER
Angela, you have to get that gun
before he does. Power like that
doesn't belong in the hands of
someone like him.

Angela walks up to Rider and grabs him by the collar. She
gets in his face.

ANGELA
What makes you think you know me so
well? What makes you think I won't
be the one to slit your throat
after we get that gun?
What makes you think power like
that doesn't belong in the hands of
someone like me?

RIDER
I.. I don't know. It was just a
feeling I got.

ANGELA
Well you better give up trusting
your feelings. I can promise you
that we won't kill you after we get
the gun, but judge me or ask me to
let you go one more time and I
swear it I'll give you a scar that
will ruin your life.

Rider looks down.

RIDER
My life has already been ruined.

Angela lets go and sits down. They sit in silence.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF BROOKLYN - DAY

Zeke, Truman, Delroy, Tom, and Abby ride close to town. Abby
leans down to Delroy's ear. She whispers.

ABBY
What do you mean you killed Max?

Delroy looks back at her. He doesn't say anything.

ABBY (CONT'D)
That isn't true, is it, Delroy?

Delroy turns back around. Abby looks down, worried.

INT. ZEKE'S ROOM - DAY

A door opens to a large room inside of one of Brooklyn's
buildings. Zeke, Truman, Abby, Delroy and Tom enter. Zeke
points to a corner.

ZEKE
Ya'll sit on the ground over here.

Abby, Tom and Delroy sit in the corner.

TOM
I'm tellin' you, you have-

ZEKE
I'm tellin' you, I don't want to
hear what you have to say. Shut
it.

TRUMAN
Well, I'm gonna go get drunk.

ZEKE
You're already drunk, and you'll
wait here.

Zeke leaves the room. Truman sits at a chair and takes out a
knife. He plays with it and looks at Tom, smiling.

TRUMAN
What you lookin' at, huh?

TOM
You better hope I don't get free.

ABBY
Tom, hush.

Truman walks up to Tom and puts his knife to Tom's throat.

TRUMAN
Say it again, perty boy.

The door opens and Truman stands quickly. Zeke walks in. He
points at the three captives.

ZEKE
Here they are.

Behind him enters an older, graying John. Eye patch and all.

John looks them up and down. He looks at Zeke and motions
for him to step aside. They stand in an opposite corner and
John leans in close to.

JOHN
Let me ask you a few questions.

ZEKE
Okay.

John points at Delroy, who is looking at the ceiling and
wobbling back and forth.

JOHN
Does that look like my son?

Zeke looks and quints his eyes.

ZEKE
Hm.. I suppose he doesn't look much
like you.

JOHN
Okay, I'm going to ask you another
question.

ZEKE
Okay.

John points at Tom, who is staring at them intently.

JOHN
Does that look like an old bounty
hunter to you?

Zeke squints his eyes and looks at Tom.

ZEKE
No, I suppose he don't look to old.

JOHN
Okay, good, good. Just one more
question now.

John points at Abby.

JOHN
Does that look like a ruthless,
pretty, brown-haired bounty hunter?

Zeke squints his eyes and looks at the pretty blond Abby.

ZEKE
Well, she is pretty. But I suppose
she's not very ruthless lookin'.
Or dark-haired.

JOHN
What do you think could possibly be
the problem here?

Zeke takes a moment to think.

ZEKE
You said a man, a woman, and a boy.
Now, I could be mistaken, but them
three look like a-

John backhands Zeke. His lip bleeds.

JOHN
You ARE mistaken.

TOM
Does this mean we can go?

John looks at Tom, but doesn't say anything. He turns and
walks towards the door as Truman sneers at Tom.

DELROY
Does this mean we can go find Rider
now?

John, almost at the door, stops in his tracks. His eyes grow
wide.

JOHN
What did you say?

TOM
He didn't say nothin'. Just let us
go.

John walks to Delroy and kneels down to him.

JOHN
Did you say Rider?

DELROY
Yes, my brother. He said he'd be
in Brooklyn. Do you know where he
is?

John smiles.

JOHN
You're his brother, huh?

Delroy nods.

TOM
He don't know what he's talking
about. We were dragged here by
them idiots.

JOHN
I suddenly don't like it when you
talk.

John stands up. He turns to Zeke.

JOHN
We have to find them. Truman, you
stay here and watch these three.

Truman looks at Tom and grins.

TRUMAN
You got it, boss.

John and Zeke exit. Truman walks up to Tom and pulls out his
knife.

TRUMAN
Well, he didn't say I couldn't hurt
ya.

ABBY
Stay away from him!

Truman puts his knife to Tom's cheek and applies pressure.
Blood drips down the knife from a small cut in Tom's face.
Tom sweats and struggles to get loose.

ABBY (CONT'D)
I said leave him alone!

Abby struggles to get loose as well, upset. Delroy looks at
her and is overcome by rage. His face goes red and he pulls
at the ropes with all of his might.

He gets loose and lunges at Truman, knocking him to the
ground and wrapping the rope around his neck.

Truman sticks his knife in Delroy's back but Delroy isn't
phased. He continues to strangle Truman in his fit of rage.

ABBY (CONT'D)
Delroy!

Tom stands, pushes Delroy off of Truman. Tom lays still,
breathing hard, recuperating.

Tom kicks Truman in the face, knocking him out. He runs to
Delroy and kneels beside him.

TOM
Delroy, are you okay?

Delroy smiles at Tom with some blood dripping from the side
of his mouth.

DELROY
I'm sorry, father.

TOM
Delroy, what are you talking about?
We need to get you to a hospital.
Can you get up?

Abby runs up and kneels next to him.

ABBY
Delroy..

DELROY
I'm sorry, father. I love you,
even though you started hating me.

Delroy coughs up some blood. He goes limp, eyes glazed over.

ABBY
Delroy!

Abby leans down and puts her head on his chest. They sit
motionless for a moment.

TOM
(quietly)
Abby, we have to get out of here.

Abby sits back up, tears in her eyes.

ABBY
Okay.

Tom sits behind Delroy and grabs onto the knife with his
hands. He pulls it out from Delroy's back, and blood squirts
all over his hands. He stands and goes to Abby.

TOM
Turn around.

She turns around and he cuts her loose.

INT. BROOKLYN TAVERN - DAY

Bill sits at the bar, drinking a beer. Zeke walks up next to
him and sits, oblivious. The BARTENDER walks up.

BARTENDER
Hey, Zeke. What can I get ya?

ZEKE
You know what the f**k I want.

The bartender walks away. Bill laughs to himself.

ZEKE
Somethin' funny, old man?

Bill, obviously drunk, turns to Zeke.

BILL
Yup. Somethin' sure is.

ZEKE
Oh, and what is that?

BILL
Your face.

Bill bursts with laughter from his own joke. Not finding it
as funny, Zeke punches him. With that, Bill smashes his beer
bottle on the bar and sticks the broken remains of the bottle
under Zeke's chin. Zeke quickly lets up.

ZEKE
Don't hurt me!

JOHN (O.S.)
He ain't gonna hurt ya.

John has entered the bar. He stands behind Bill. Bill turns
slowly.

BILL
I thought you were dead.

JOHN
Apparently you thought wrong.

John hits Bill, knocking him out.

INT. BROOKLYN HOTEL BEDROOM - NIGHT

Bill enters the hotel room. Rider is asleep and Angela
stares out the window. She turns to look at him.

ANGELA
Where the hell have you been?

BILL
Drunk.

ANGELA
Where's Cody?

BILL
Couldn't find him. Let's go. It's
dark. Wake him up.

Angela nudges Rider. His eyes open and he looks around.

RIDER
Morning.

BILL
Shut up and take us to the gun.

RIDER
You're gonna need a spade.

Bill storms out of the room.

EXT. BROOKLYN GRAVEYARD - NIGHT

It's dark. Angela and Rider dig up a grave in front of a
stone that's engraved "R.I.P. Sheriff Christopher Johnson."
Bill leans on a nearby tree, watching.

They're pretty deep into the ground, when a thud is heard.
It's Rider's spade hitting wood.

RIDER
I think this is it.

Bill springs up and jumps down into the hole. They swipe the
dirt away until the wooden coffin is bare.

BILL
Both of you, out.

Angela and Rider get out. Rider looks down, but Angela
glances around curiously. She pulls out her pistol. Bill
opens the casket and sees the skeletal remains of the
sheriff.

Bill looks down and sure enough, The Green Army is in his
holster. He pulls it out and marvels at its splendor.

BILL
It's wonderful.

ANGELA
Great, you better get ready to use
it.

BILL
Put your weapon down, Angela.

Bill points the gun at Angela. She turns, sees him. Puts
her hands in the air.

ANGELA
What's this all about, Bill?

BILL
There's been a change in plans.

From behind, two horses ride up. On them, John and Zeke.
Zeke gets off his horse and aims his pistol at Angela.

JOHN
Hello, Angela.

Rider's eyes open wide.

RIDER
John?

JOHN
That's no way to address your
father, boy.

RIDER
You're not my father!

ANGELA
John. I thought you were dead.

JOHN
That's what happens when you enlist
an idiot to do a professional job.

ANGELA
Cody. What did you do to him?

JOHN
What do you think we did? He's
dead, Angela.

Angela's face grows stern and tears form in her eyes.

JOHN
Give me the gun now, Bill.

Bill gets out of the grave and stands still a moment. He
stares at The Green Army.

JOHN (CONT'D)
Give it to me.

Bill aims The Green Army at John.

BAM! A gunshot rings in the distance. Everyone ducks and
runs in separate directions except Zeke, who falls off of his
horse, shot dead.

Bill ducks behind a tombstone, clutching The Green Army to
his chest. He peeks out and sees no one.

Angela and Rider duck behind a large tree. They look around
and see Bill hiding behind a tombstone.

John is inside the grave. He peeks out and sees no one.

Tom and Abby stand behind another large tree.

TOM
Abby, you need to get out of here.

ABBY
I'm staying with you.

TOM
It's not safe now. You need to
leave!

ABBY
I'm not leaving!

TOM
God damnit!

Bill peeks out again.

BILL
Who's out there?!

TOM
It's the sheriff! Now come out and
drop your weapons! All of you!
You're surrounded!

JOHN
Nice try, but you ain't the
sheriff!

TOM
I said you're surrounded, so ya'll
come out now!

BILL
Show yourself first!

TOM
What, do you think I'm stupid?!
You show yourself first!

Rider nudges Angela and whispers to her while everyone else
shouts to each other.

RIDER
You have to get the gun. You have
to shoot him.

ANGELA
I can't, Rider. He's the father of
my child.

RIDER
What? You have a child?

ANGELA
Yes, well.. I did.

Angela holds back tears.

RIDER
Was Cody your-

ANGELA
Yes. But Bill doesn't know he's
the father.

RIDER
I'm sorry, Angela.

ANGELA
Not now. We don't have time for
this.

Angela points the gun at Bill. She steadies and aims.

ANGELA (CONT'D)
S**t.

She shoots.

The bullet hits his hand and The Green Army flies.

BILL
Ahh!

Angela runs and jumps behind the tombstone and sits next to
Bill.

Tom shoots; misses.

JOHN
What the hell is going on?!

BILL
My hand!

Angela tears off one of her sleeves and wraps it around his
hand.

ANGELA
I'm sorry, Bill.

BILL
I would have given you the gun!

ANGELA
No you wouldn't have, Bill.

Angela slowly reaches and grabs The Green Army. Bill looks
at The Green Arm with coveting eyes and reaches for his gun
with his other hand. Angela notices and hits him with the
butt of The Green Army. He's knocked out.

ANGELA
Not yours.

TOM
I'm giving you all to the count of
3 to come out! One.. Two..

ANGELA
Don't! I have The Green Army!

Silence for a moment.

TOM
What the hell is that?!

ANGELA
Let's just say I can see you, and I
know you're alone and if you don't
come out, I'll shoot!

Tom looks around him and kneels down. He looks at Abby.

TOM
How the hell can she see me?

Angela sighs out of annoyance, takes out her other pistol,
peeks around the tombstone, aims and shoots.

A round hits the tree Tom is ducking behind.

TOM
S**t!

ANGELA
That was a warning!

TOM
(to Abby)
Stay here.

ABBY
No, don't go out there!

TOM
Abby, stay here. And I mean it
this time.

Tom raises his hands in the air and walks out from behind the
tree. John peeks out and sees him. He aims his gun.

ANGELA
(to Tom)
Drop your weapon!

Tom drops it. Rider looks out and sees Tom.

RIDER
Tom!

TOM
Rider? Is that you?

RIDER
It's me, Tom! Where's Delroy? Is
he okay?

Tom looks down for a moment.

TOM
He's fine, Rider.

Rider sees John's head sticking out of the grave, aiming his
gun.

RIDER
Papa!

John turns his head towards Rider for a moment.

ANGELA
John, don't move. I've got my gun
trained on you. Drop it.

John drops his gun.

ANGELA
Alright, everyone put your hands on
your head and gather close.

John gets out of the grave and Tom walks up. John and Tom
have their hands on their heads.

Bill slowly wakes up. He looks over and sees everyone
gathered together. He sees The Green Army in Angela's hand.

ANGELA
I'm gonna gather up all your
weapons now. We're gonna go back
to town and we'll all be on our
separate ways.

Bill takes out his gun, c***s the hammer, aims it at Angela's
back, and shoots.

Shot in the back, Angela falls forward, and The Green Army
flies out of her hand.

In slow-motion, the gun lands in Rider's hands. Angela falls
to the ground dead. Bill turns to Rider, but before he can
do anything, Rider shoots at Bill with The Green Army.

Bill jolts. He looks at his body.

Nothing.

Nobody moves.

BILL
Did you.. Did you miss?

Rider looks down at the smoking gun, then looks at Bill, then
looks at everyone else. Nobody has been shot.

RIDER
I missed.

John chuckles.

JOHN
It's a fake! It doesn't even work!

BILL
How is that possible?

Rider drops the gun. He looks down at Angela, then at Zeke
on the ground, then at Bill.

RIDER
Cody. He was your son. Angela
told me.

Bill drops his gun. He looks at Angela, stunned and
heartbroken.

Rider looks at John.

RIDER
I called you papa a moment ago.

JOHN
I know.

RIDER
I didn't mean it.

Rider takes the pieces of the wooden voodoo doll and throws
them at John's feet. He walks to Tom and Tom puts his arm
around Rider's shoulder. They leave. John stands still.
Bill drops to his knees.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF BROOKLYN - DAWN

Tom is on a horse riding out of town. Behind him is Rider
and Abby on a horse. Abby sits behind Rider and holds him
with her head on his shoulder.

They ride into the sunrise.

FADE OUT.
