The Road Ahead

The Road Ahead

A Poem by Patrick Hopkins
"

I had to write this for my English class, it's about peer pressure and how your supposed to make your own choices, I think it's too sloppy except for the last sentence, but that's my opinion, tell me if you think I should re-do it

"

Here I stand, before a road

Lined with cobblestones and earth

Ahead lies the tempting promises

Of a future filled with worth

Behind me lays the footprints

Laying calmly in the dirt

Memories of victory and of failure

Proof of dust that lines my shirt

How easy it has been

To tread the path where others strode

 The miles pass more quickly

When there is company along the road

But still nothing can compare

To straying off the path

Experiencing for yourself

The fruits of joy at your behalf

One day you may come

To the fork where I now stand

Wondering whether to walk the road

Or simply stroll the land

The road show so much promise

For the future yet to come

But over the hills are potholes

Hidden from the sun

The choice, my friends, is up to you

But when I raise my feet

The choice I make is up to me

And I’m stepping off the street

I'm guessing you read "The Road Not Taken" in class?? (smile)

I think your last line is not in rhythm with the rest of the poem - why street?
