A powerful poem on names and identities. It is so true that we can lose ourselves to others if we allow it and find it hard to regain lost territory and identity. I like to share and give for they enrich our sense of it all in a balance way instead just losing and not retaining our name and sense of identity. Mother Nature shares all things but keeps its essence which is God-given. An excellent write...:)...............

It's hard to give of yourself, and not give it all...and sometimes I think for women this is even more the case, as we enter marriage and lose a part of our name...sometimes even a sense of identity if we don't hold fast. At least, in my generation--back in the day--this was more the case. Finding yourself again, can be a challenge...but certainly one worth undertaking. Thank you so much for taking time to read and comment. Big hug, my friend.
I remember post Vietnam, rage, lostness, anger, tears. It wasn't until three years passed that I found a small hint of self in fellow Nam vets.
This poem reminds me of those times. Nice work!
Regards,
Al

Aha - it's easy to live IN someone else's life too!
This poem takes the reader on the journey from a remora-fish-like existence through pain of separation and struggle then self-reliance and independence.
We cannot know what we are capable of while we live in the shadows of others.
This is an inspirational write.

Beautifully captured Pam. We become half of a couple when together, but when that together falls apart, we become half of everything, because that is what we have let ourselves become. It is only when we realise that life goes on, that we realise we need to be whole again to get through it, and with that, become a new person, with a lot of the old us, but an entirely new perspective.
We are too hard on ourselves, when what we should be doing is congratulating ourselves for every achievement, large or small, that we make, all by ourselves. Look around you at your achievements and really think about them. They are all yours, no one else's. So many saying about being older and wiser, but none of them contain the important part, you are still you.

exactly...and this poem is a really good lesson in the idea that relationships should be built out of want....not need...and that we have to really be okay with ourselves before we give part of us to another and share.

Exactly, Jacob.
Thank you so much for taking time to read and review.
Appreciate it!
Difficult indeed to readjust to life after the breakup of a relationship, especially so if it was long term, sadly though, it's a reality and something we all have to deal with and sometime or another, for as in life, ' till death do us part'
I think we become more wiser and stronger from this scenario I just think the answers we seek from a breakup full of questions is just part of the recovery and finding oneself. Nice work RW

Dependency. Identity crisis. Loss of self (IN & OUTside of the relationship). Not living up to one's potential. Confinement. Knowledge. reStarting. Independence. Hello Self.
Very intriguing write. Stimulating for the brain. I enjoy such topics being discussed & mused on.
Well done, Pam.

learning to improve and accept who we are is key to quality decision with or without the other. no matter how much or less we learn from the other we still own our names. Nice!
