‘Ain’t Lookin Back’ Road

‘Ain’t Lookin Back’ Road

A Poem by ReedWrite
"

Poem about moving on

"

My feet are walkin’…walkin’…walkin’,

Out the front door.

Your mouth keeps talkin’…talkin’…talkin’,

I don’t hear you anymore.

There is no ‘one more time’,

            I’m so done with holdin’on.

            Stop spinnin’ pretty lies,

            I've heard every toxic con.

I see you cryin’…cryin’…cryin’,

All those crocodile tears.

My heart is dyin’…dyin’…dyin’,

Gonna hurt like this for years.

You always promised, 'I’ll change’,

But we’ve been down that road.

So many meaningless lies,

Time to reap what we’ve sowed.

We’re always goin’…goin’…goin’

Round and round again.

Dysfunction growin’…growin’…growin’

And the cycle never ends.

Way past ‘keep on keepin on’.

            It's time to walk away.

Our lives need to be colored,

In more than shades of gray.

So stop your talkin’…talkin’…talkin’,

Every word is bought and sold.

My feet are walkin’…walkin’…walkin’,

Down that ‘Ain’t Lookin’ Back’ road.

Penned this today as a song, actually. It might need a little tweaking yet, as I'm still moving back and forth between the poetry and the music...but I think I'm going to like it in the end.

So as I was reading this I automatically imagined it to a tune, abd then funny enough I got to your note where you said it was written as a song, lol

Well that musical intention definitely came through! :D
Thank you for writing this. It is never easy to make that decision to walk away and not look back, something I am learning all too well, but you done a marvellous job of writing this so freely and yes, lyrically. Would be nice to hear that song, just to know if the tune that played in my head was anything similar to what you intended. How many promises did it take to come up with the conclusion there wouldn't be another? Many no doubt, yet even after you walk and don't look back, the mind still wanders in quiet moments to all the what if's and self doubt that comes with those choices that need to be made.
Really well written piece, that is a bit deja vu like to me right now, having came to that very same conclusion myself in the not too distant past. Hope your road is long and full of new adventures :)

I like it! There comes a time in a lot of relationships when we have to just accept what is and move on down the road. Well done!
