I'm not nearly as dark as my poetry might suggest...just thoughtful...questioning...wondering. I AM however, more than a little cynical. Who knew, right?

"THERE'S NO i IN WE"
ReedWrite,
How else can any of us learn. If all we know is ourselves with no challenges we simply go stagnant. Giving, sharing, caring and more besides is needed to become a well rounded human being. No where will any of us be tested more then in close knit relationships, where vulnerabiltiy is apparent. Great poem!
Blessings,
Kathy

Your very welcome. Keep enjoying your writing and sharing. Blessings to ya!
There's no " I " in team but with a little give and take the puzzle pieces of love and life eventually fit together with adjustments only if you want to!! Nicely presented, well written.

Thank you, Andrew. So true. Thank you for the read and review. Appreciate it very much.
I f*****g love this poem!!!! I find it completely relatable!!!! When you get into a realtionship with someone there is no longer an "I". It's SO SO true! And I especially love that line about the war being conveniently done. Great poem!

Women, especially tend to lose themselves in relationships. That need to please and conform in an attempt to be loved. It's almost like an assumed reality...even more so in my generation. Maybe not so much anymore...but it still happens. I am really glad you liked this poem. Nothing more fulfilling or humbling than when a reader connects to something you've penned. Thank you for the review!

Being part of a team should be simple, love should show us the others perspective and allow for change and growth.....but mostly it's a tug of war that feels more like we are a pushmepullyou from Dr Dolittle :)
Love is a many splendoured thing, the saying goes, yet itfails to mention it is also a pain in the asp too :)
Beautifully creative words, as ever.
Oh, and love the authors note too :)

Ah, love. And then, marriage contract and as my wife says 'didn't you read the fine print'. And there's so much fine print. Being in any relationship requires an adjustment for sure, but it's well worth the effort. I like how your poem draws the statement together. From two to one. Good write.
I love this!! The flow is amazing. Just rolls right off the tongue. Really nice.

A really smartly crafted piece which screams to be read aloud perhaps even a slam vibe going on. Poignant, precise and super dope rhyming...I had to say that :) Diggin your words choice. Regards Ray xo

You think they would hand out instruction manuals.
I mean, everlasting love, is that not a sort of contract.
Mind you, i suppose after a few years, you might kill him with that instruction manual.

Thank you Paul, for reading and commenting, and I won't throw anything at you. Pinky swear!
This piece sounds beautiful when it is read aloud, and it just struck me because it gives an accurate description of me... There are too many strange relationships, whether it is friends or whatever, that finally makes "me" disappear. The line "The battle is won... the war conveniently done" is my favorite. Is it really won in the end? This is the question.

All too easy for some of us to lose ourselves in a relationship...in what we're expected to do...how we're expected to conform. You're right...I'm not sure the battle is ever really won...just an uneasy truce, maybe...or the battle we wage within, constantly questioning our choices, can make the victory seem meaningless in the end. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I appreciate it.
Such a poem, Dear Poetess,
Not only composed skillfully, but steeped in knowing wisdom, as-well.
It happens, albeit rare, one comes across a work rendered by more than a pretty pen or pie in the sky visions of lust, of lush gratification, expressed angst, etc; rather, a piece reflecting such a bright and conscious appeal one is left captivated, in-tune, wanting to know more about the person behind their words.
We know, don't we, deeply successful relations are not based on keeping score, but by giving one's all, by full dedication and decisive care about what makes things functional and right for the relationship, avoiding outside influences that work against it? On and on, the private universe of a truly deep and successful relationship should be purposefully made immune … that sacred, protected space that dances vibrantly between two individuals intent on harmonious splendor, letting nothing discouraging enter-in and dwell there.
See? Ya got me carried-away … sooo pleasurably, too! ; )
Blah-blah-blah! So much more I'm inspired to spout, but lest I wear your eyes out … smiles 'n hugs of happy thanks to You for sharing your uniquely enthralling craft/lovely self! ⁓ Richard

Truly, it would be a pleasurable experience for me. I am very good at skating on the surface in most relationships and conversations, as it is what people seem to want. Very few actually want any depth, because that involves a commitment, of sorts. I'm not speaking of a relationship commitment...but the commitment of emotion. Once you dive below the surface, you come face to face with raw emotion...both yours, and the person sitting across from you. I don't have any experience with the kind of love you write about in your poetry...the union of souls...harmonious splendor. Given my past, there is probably little possibility for that type of union in the future. However, I do believe in it. When I write of a relationship in my novels, there is always that depth of commitment between the protagonists...however, I find it so very hard to do in poetry. In poetry...I'm delving into my own emotions and pain, not my character's...and I can't fake that. Thank you for your kind words...it's such a pleasure to run across someone who sees more than what is there to see...and isn't afraid to explore it. :)

if nothing else, the one thing (I feel) we both harbor within our core is, "That which we desire, crave, and need begins with the sensation of a feeling, the spark of an appealing ideal, the effulgent embrace of a dream."
Love (like happiness) is not a thing outside oneself, it lives within us all, awaiting a key that fits its lock, and there may be many keys, but they have to be the right one every time to set it free … as you imagine it to be, as it flows from my pen to thee.
Afraid? What is fear really, but fear of fear, itself!
I welcome sharing our words, and that which compels them, anytime the desire taps your shoulder! ; )
