Bloodlines

Bloodlines

A Poem by Reed Rickmers
"

"a stupid fascination with remapping the blueprint"...says it all.

"

these are my blood lines,

scribbled in the margins of no grander plan but mine;

a sublime sanctuary,

to love blind and to blame

the vicariousness of fate when I make a mistake;

though this writing should be honest,

it should be written with passion;

so I'm flipping through the songlist,

skipping the tracks when they're getting the back spin;

now lifting like atlas,

sifting with calloused fingers through metaphor and simile,

trying to build a better world through symphony,

while my balance lingers for the moment...

...dreams hurt grown men who see worth in omens;

neither noble notions nor deeper oceans could be used to describe;

so these are my lines,

written in blood;

my ancestry,

rooted in poetry;

a stupid fascination with remapping the blueprint

by the entrancing light of a moonless sky

where the truth is always hardest to find;

retracing my foot steps,

chasing that fleeting feeling I never quite could catch;

a moving target that just caught cupids eye;

it's do or die;

so with love's arrows I crucify myself to a page

in the center of a balance beam;

it's time to choose a side

cuz this writers galaxy is defined

by the duality of death and life

and the truce will break at the first sign of that elusive high;

like consuming wine under the bluest skies

while wild flowers bloom under the noon sunshine;

everything is true sometimes;

the basis of my blood lines,

drawn by intravenous pen

from which flow rivers of plasma

that rush by my window

where I sit and smile

as my face is touched by the wind as it blows;

a simple euphoric distraction...no;

a temple, at it's core, filled with rapture;

I sketch it's architecture with red ink;

the art of letters is best practiced

when the sun is setting;

a sort of last kiss,

a transitional phase like the burning of matches;

I am learning the fact is life can only be written in blood;

I am a carrier,

unaccountable for my art;

a vessel that just drifts in the flood.

It is beautiful, but might I suggest that you increase the font size. It gets a little harder to read. An amazing job though!
