Bounty Contract: Umbara (Prologue)A Chapter by Matthew WaltersThe dimly lit lights of the Correllian XS Stock light freighter filled the cargo hold as Fenri lay on the makeshift bed he'd crafted for himself. The XS Freighter, named the Gilded Rose by its captain, had been hired by the Mandalorian Enclave to transport Fenri to the vicious, terrestrial world of Umbara. The ride had been mostly quiet, with the static, rhythmic hum of the Gilded Rose's engines, lulling the Hunter into a more relaxed state. He lay on his folding cot, staring up at the light grey, metal plating of the cargo bay's ceiling, counting the seconds that passed on the journey. It was an old tick his father, Darelk Cin'ciri, taught him on their homeworld of Maldo Kreis, a lifetime ago...
Suddenly, Fenri heard a voice, broadcasted through the ship's intercom, shaking him awake from the semi-state of conscious meditation he found himself in. The intercom said," Vod, we're approaching Umbara, get your butt up here and take a look." before cutting out, leaving Fenri alone again, with nothing to be heard the vibrating Engines of the Rose.
Fenri got up, still dressed in his TT-17A Hydra Armor, and made his way toward the bridge. The yellowish lights seem to clash with the Mandalorian's armor's soft, snow colored paint, barely giving off a glimmer or shine. The black, wolf-headed insignia of clan Cin'ciri rested on the man's breast, painted by his clan's forge master, many years ago, now the last of its mark. When he arrived at the bridge, he nodded and looked to the Freighter's captain and pilot, a fellow Mandalorian of the Enclave, named Erron of clan Kyor'tal. The pilot pointed toward the large, spherical, purple colored world of Umbara, the site of which looked more like a nightmare than a planet. The world of Umbara was a terrestrial world, shaped like a horrific nightmare of never-ending clouds of lightish purple, with the surface being a never-ending mixture of darker magenta and burning maroon, dotted with various red lights.
The pilot, Erron, looked up from his seat, looking at Fenri from the T shaped visor of the blue and white armor of the Mandalorian Hunter, given to him by the Enclave, that bore the crest of his clan on the shoulder pad. The Mandalorian turned back to the controls and pushed a few buttons on the control panel, sending the Starport city of Umbra our ship landing and docking codes, along with getting clearance from them to land. Erron then looked back to Fenri, saying," Have you ever been to Umbara?" Fenri shook his head in response.
Erron nodded in response, continuing," Well, officially, they're neutral. However, the planet has a long, pro-republic history, Vod. Most of Umbara publicly support the empire, however, so there's that. The beast you're hunting's a local one, a Gladiopod; big, mean, and uglier than a Hutt's kriff hole, so shouldn't be too hard to find there, Ner'vod. I'd hit up the local BBA house; they should have a few guides that can lead you through the jungles...Just um, be careful about Umbarans; they're a crafty bunch. They look like a Rattataki on spice, but they're slick none the same.``
Fenri nodded to the man before heading back to the cargo bay after the two Mandalorians chatted to get ready for his hunt. He rested back on his fold up hammock, going over his initial plan. He was armed with the E-17 Correllian Blaster Rifle, nicknamed the Inscrutable Rifle by most. Along with the long, sleek, black Blaster Rifle, the Mandalorian carried with him a Czerka Tech RK-6, Starforge, Blaster pistol, equipped with an auto-release function on the ammo clip and the durasteel hunting knife his father gave him, long ago. He then looked over the large animal cage that rested in the cargo bay, imagining the beast he saw on the Enclave archive, bashing around in it. © 2021 Matthew Walters |
