Nightmare

Nightmare

A Poem by Sarah Rayne

I slowly close my eyes

The darkness takes over and it begins

I know it's not real, only a bunch of lies

But when it starts, I pray that it soon ends

Slowly they encircle me

I'm chained and bound

I wish they would leave me be

Instead they leave my tortured body on the ground

Everything goes black and I know the end is near

I want this to stop; it isn't fair

The things they do to me is what I fear

I want to end this sickening nightmare

I awaken and everything's alright so I say goodbye to all the pain. But nothing is as it seems,

For tomorrow night, I'll be tormented by demons in my dreams

Very nice built up poem. Good format, very consistent rhymes. You are able to balance format and content and that is a real talent. Your work comes across as very natural... That's a real gift, to go with the flow and to be able to use rhyme and stanzas!

My congratulations and welcome here!

This is good. I like the way you wrote about nightmares!! To be tormented every night would be horrible! I thought this was unique. I liked that you wrote in the style of Poe. Very good.
