The FightA Story by Reddog19A flash story
The young girl sat alone on the padded pew. She reached down and gently felt the faded golden fabric of the bench. She had been here for almost 30 minutes with no other human contact. Her eyes glanced up as a boy entered the sanctuary.
He was not a very tall boy, especially for being a senior in high school, but he had the mindset of a man beyond his years. He had short but flowing blonde hair and long piano fingers. He flicked his bangs to the right as he scanned the solemn sanctuary, spotting the girl on the seat with his brilliant green eyes. His lips slowly curled into a smile as he went back out the door. The girl smirked to herself quietly, knowing what game he was playing. She quickly rose from her chair and sneaked off after him. She could hear him snickering to himself a little ways down the hall. The whole school seemed to be deserted, but both of them were used to getting there at such an early hour. The air smelled of something different today though. Usually the school grounds always smelled like the sweet scent of sweaty gym socks and moldy forgotten squirrel-holed food. But today, the fresh breeze brought with it the heavy odor of whiskey. The girl paused for a moment, trying to figure out where the smell was wafting from. She crouched lower and rounded the corner to the courtyard where the boy had disappeared. She was met with the gruesome sight of an older man pinning the boy to a wall. The man was obviously drunk mad, because even from here, the girl could tell he had no sense of posture whatsoever. Unfortunately, the boy was easily overpowered by the man. The girl watched hesitantly as the man raised his grubby fist to hit the boy. That was enough for her trigger. She raced out of the shadows and slammed into the man, throwing him to the ground. The man, startled at such a happening, scrambled up and out of the scene as quickly as his dirty legs would carry him. The boy slumped to the ground, wiping away some of the crimson blood from an earlier hit. The girl settled in next to him and they both sat in silence as the upcoming hours before school started slowly slipped by. © 2014 Reddog19 |
