what possible good can fountains be

what possible good can fountains be

A Poem by J. Randall Dodd

what possible good can fountains be,

containing fills of copper coin--

hopeful hand-tossed dreams,

whispered wants held in

washéd waters bluish clear?

there are people born of science and reason

that teach for the time of "nonsensical gone" to be here;

ruling that there be no wishes (like ones cast by wishers on

pilgrimages or those of that gypsy sort).

they drain the waters and train great armies,

capture and chain and dig out dirt,

yelling-- cast them into the pits!  with the pixies

and the dwarves and the elves and little red riding hood.

what possible good can reason be if reason does no good?

Author's Note

J. Randall Dodd
a variation of the classic sonnet. not really my thing normally, but was bored and a bit snockered. never know what myself and jagermeister will do when we get together ;0)

I won't lie. I have tossed coins in fountains on every continent. Just wishes tossed in the wind. We need hope and dreams to maintain a life. I like this poem. Your words can dance in many directions. Always a pleasure to read your words. A excellent poem.
