there is beauty in

there is beauty in

A Poem by J. Randall Dodd

a rusted folger's coffee can

speckled orange & red,
abandoned upon a shelf

in a rotten & decrepit

roofless wooden shack,

full to the brim
w/ green copper coins,

brown nails & smatterings of black
leaves drowned beneath rainwater.

Thank you for focusing on the mundane. I love this because I have seen this exact picture a couple times and seen beauty there. Your form really works well. I don't know what I feel about "w/ green" because that is internet slang. It just doesn't seem to fit the poem for me. I would try to show the reasoning for this more. It's great that you get particular with the folger's can, especially since most of us have seen one. It makes it personal right away.
