portrait of a woman sleeping

portrait of a woman sleeping

A Poem by J. Randall Dodd

your naked flesh glows in the light

of a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

you radiate waves of searing heat

while lying wrapped in tangled sheets.

your skin

so smooth,

like egg shell curves;

dark tresses curled

like van gogh swirls

and a faint smile

            pirouetting

on lips of pink, silk ballet shoes

as you dream of times when not in sleep.

A lovely, artistic vision, nicely-worded. "Egg shell curves"--I like that.

Poem is outstanding. Every line was strong and had purpose. I like the description of the room and the woman. I like your style of writing. Re-mind me of the old writers who demanded every word to have a reason to be used. A outanding poem.

I stand in awe. I could not have said it better. Thanks for painting this into words.

This is a very interesting piece. I have to say my favorite part is "dark tresses curled/like Van Gogh swirls". I'm a huge Van Gogh fan, so I find that very intriguing. It's also very strong because it is an image almost anyone would understand. You make very good comparisons for the various parts of the woman.

I really enjoy poetry about this simple moments. It's nice to bring beauty into the plain. Good job!
