the echo of blood

the echo of blood

A Poem by J. Randall Dodd

you bleed from me

like waves of winter wheat flowing

            among fields;

filling the eddies,

the streams,

the quiet peace

            with gurgling sounds.

you are painful,

yet beautiful to watch

as liquid pools in shallow spots of soil.

you were me once,

            but now something else-

something greater than myself,

an echo
'cross the wild plains of humanity.

I like that you took chances with the form. It reminds me of the chaotic trails blood leaves as it drains or falls. It's nice to have a fresh look where blood is looked at as something very beautiful. I also like the focus on how it doesn't seem to be part of the speaker anymore.
