This is Not a Love Poem.

This is Not a Love Poem.

A Poem by Tim Lawless

This is not a love poem.

Such a tired, spent literary form

Would do a disservice to everything I truly feel

And yet find myself unable to express.

You deserve more than contrived metaphors and non-analogous analogies.

You deserve more than comparisons to everything beautfiul under the sun,

You deserve more than me whining about how much more you deserve.

When I think the world is out to get me,

You've an answer at the ready.

When I've dug myself so deep in shame,

You life me out despite the pain.

You are everything I''m not and nothing that I would have ever expected.

More than enough for me, and yet I find you give more still of yourself.

I'm trying my hardest to show my love in tangible ways,

But I always forget the flowers or step on your toes.

That you can still laugh and smile at all of this is all the proof I need.

You are the only one I will ever need.

Don't ever forget that.
