Talking to AngelsA Poem by Tim LawlessI could move a mountain with my faith. I speak in tongues that cause the earth to shake. I've conversed with angels, I know their very thoughts, Though I feel further now from everything I've sought.
I am dischord, symply empty noise, I know all there is to know but my heart is a void. I'll give away everything I own, And still be no closer to what I seek to know.
I would give up my life and surrender to fire, And gain no ground toward what I desire. My righteousness is still so many filthy rags, Because what I've gained pales compared to what I don't have.
Without love, I do not know Him. Without love, I can not see His face. If I don't share the love He has for me, Can I honestly say I deserve His grace.
I am Nothing without love. And Oh God! You're so far above. This least of all can I hide from you! What I know is true is never what I do!
"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing."
