Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Tim Lawless

They keep saying I'll miss this town.

They all keep saying I'll come around.

But I never found much to like about it here.

It's still just the same after so many years.

I'll admit it's grown on me, that I've become quite fond.

But there's too much pain on these empty streets to miss it while I'm gone.

I guess I'll miss the laughs, the weather, hot and cold,

And sharing many sleepless nights with friends both new and old.

I'll miss my family, miss my friends,

I'll love them till the bitter end,

I'll miss the songs, I'll miss the shows,

The pain and joy, the highs and lows.

I found God my Father in this godforsaken town,

I found my calling in the mountains with nothing else around.

Maybe I'll miss it just a little, when I have moved on

This town's left me memories that never will be gone.

This I have to admit is my favorite thing your written that I've read. I don't know, I just feel like I see more YOU in this than I do in any of your other poems, and I like that.

"They keep saying I'll miss this town.
They all keep saying I'll come around.
But I never found much to like about it here.
It's still just the same after so many years."

I love those lines the best... and I think they speak the loudest.. because things around here really do rarely change.
And just so you know, though you might not miss it here, I know here[and me] will miss you.
