Steve and Dominic 6

OPERATION: NONE

OBJECTIVE:NONE

AGENTS: STEVE AND DOMINIC

DESCRIPTION: OUR BOYS SEEM TO HAVE SOMETHING FOR US

Dominic, Marcus, and I passed through the halls of the agency headquarters. Some of the agent soldiers said hello to us, but we didn't respond in any way. Outside of the Agency leader's door was a secretary. She had a headset on an wore a blue shirt and skirt as well as having short blond hair. She was probably the most stereotypical one we had ever saw. She noticed us and smiled.

“Hello there you two.” she said with face glowing with positive energy “How may I help you guys?”

“We have some important information on Black Hawk upcoming operations.” I told her getting out the dossier that I had put away. Dominic clenched his fists as he waited for the lady to let us in. I noticed Marcus was a little uncomfortable.

“Oh,” the secretary said with surprise “Well the boss is having a meeting with the big boys of the agency. How important is it?”

“It's pretty important.” I told her.

“Alright,” she said “head on in.”

As we all we about to enter the doors, a familiar voice caught us off guard.

“Marcus,” he said “Your lucky they patted me down before I came in here. I asked you two to kill him, not bring him here!”

“Josh,” Marcus replied unable to think of a way to explain “you need to know the truth.”
“Alright then,” Josh told him “let me start by saying that I really hate you after abandoning me and working for the Black Hawk's”

“Abandoning?” Marcus told him surprised “You think I abandoned you?”

“Let's let them work it out; we got other important matters to attend to.” I told Dominic.

We pushed open the two big doors that led into the room. We were instantly rushed with the smell of cigar smoke that filled the air as the doors closed behind us. In the middle of the room was a rectangular table with the long ends in our direction. We saw multiple people sitting with glasses of brandy and cigars in their hands. The room was slightly dimmed due to the projector being on. A single man stood up and was pointing at a picture that was lit up on the wall as he was talking to the men. We walked closer towards the table, but we weren't noticed at first. The man speaking, who also had his back turned to us, went on with his speech.

“As you can see here,” he continued “that there is only one way in and one way out of their headquarters. There are bound to be multiple security guards outside the compound and many more inside. They would see a full scale attack coming.”

“How many men does Black Hawk company have?” one of the men asked.

“At there base at all time? About 300 hundred, at least.”

“Jesus,” another added “We can't fight that many on their grounds. What about an aerial attack? That could work, right?”

“No change.” The man speaking told them. “They have missile turrets to shoot down anything that isn't permitted to fly in that general area.”

“What if we were to deactivate the missiles?” another asked raising his cigar to his mouth.

“The only way that would work would be if a small squad got in and did that. Nobody would be willing to risk their lives trying to do that.” the speaker said.

“It's funny you should mention that.” I said aloud. Everyone in the room except the speaker turned to Dominic and I. The speaker laughed and then turned to us. It was the leader of the agency.

“Steve and Dominic, you two never do seem to stop, do you?”

I set the dossier on the table and slid it to him. It passed all of the men and finally stopped at the boss. He opened it and proceeded to read it. After flipping a few pages he looked up at us.

“Sir,” I said politely “They have what little we have left. My girlfriend and Dominic's little girl. We're willing to do what's necessary.”

There was silent pause. The leader of the agency nodded at us.

“I think you boys have more than earned the right to fully know what your dealing with.” he told us. The truth finally came forward.

The leader told the person working the projector to switch slides.

“Let me start from the beginning.” he told us as he stood next to the image on the screen. “When we hired you both on your first task to that small town we didn't really think you to would survive.”

“Thanks for the confidence.” Dominic added in under his breath.

“Trust me,” he said to us “I had no wish to get you two killed; you guys were the only one's we could rely on.”

Dominic started to laugh at him.

“You do know who we are, don't you?”

“We're not really the reliable type.” I added in truthfully

“I know.” said the agency leader as he got out some files. He lifted them in the air and then tossed them on the table.

“You've robbed multiple banks, killed too many people to count, and other crimes in the liking. And yet you two never got caught. You guys were so talented that you were given pardons if you helped take out targets for the government. You two were truly incredible. You even made some enemies with some mobs along the way.”

“We don't have very good luck with making friends.”

“I disagree.” the leader said pacing the floor in front of him. “What about your girlfriend, Abigail or Dominic's wife, Laura?”

“That's different.” Dominic said to him crossing his arms, but not hiding his face.

“Of course it is.”

“What's your point?” I asked the leader impatiently.

“You two are killers by nature. When the outbreak started to spread nobody had the guts to actually find out what they were. After almost two months of slaughter and decease you two show up asking for work. We asked you to go into one of the most heavily populated infected zones to go get paperwork.”

“For the right price of course.” Dominic said, still crossing his arms.

“You two also have something that nobody else has.” the leader told us confidently, looking at us through his dark sunglasses. “You both have immunities to the infection.”

“Immunity?” Dominic asked confused.

“What? Haven't you been bit before?” the leader asked us surprised.

“Well, yes, but I thought-”

“How did you think people got infected?”

I shrugged hopelessly.

“I don't know. Contamination?” I told him honestly.

“Quite the opposite.” the leader told us, then telling the man working the projector to a slide. The picture that was presented before us was a stand of DNA, which looked normal.

“What do you see here?” the leader asked us.

“It's just DNA” I said a bit irritated. I felt very condescended to; just because I'm a mercenary doesn't mean I'm an idiot.

“Indeed it is.” he said as the slide flickered to the next image. It was two strands of DNA: one was normal and the other seemed a bit altered. “Now what do you see.”

Dominic squinted his eyes and tilted his head, starring at the picture.

“The DNA pattern is jumbled up.” Dominic said aloud “There's no molecular structure; its all randomized and is in certain formations that it shouldn't be in.”

“Impressive.” There leader told us, as if we were children who finally learned the alphabet.

“A*****e....” Dominic mumbled to himself.

“Can you just get on with this. We don't need a biology lesson.”

“These two DNA strands are obviously different indeed. The one on the left is normal, the kind you would see in any natural living organism. The one the right is the one of a walking dead. It's cells and DNA are totally mutated. We discovered this, or should I say Dr. Miller and Dr. Hue did when they were experimenting with their research.

“Wait?” I told him “You mean Mr. Miller? The guy and his family that we saved.”

“And John Hue? The crazy religious zealot who shot himself?”

“That would be them. Miller and Hue were working on a cure for cancer. A few chemical compounds later, a virus was born on accident. Hue and Miller tried to make sure that the chemical was disposed of, but of course the government couldn't pass up the chance of a new super biological weapon. Hue, who was totally outraged by this, quit his position and left to live in some backwater town; the one you two found him at. He didn't even want his name on the project that he and Miller spent 4 and a half years on.”

“And is that why Mr. Miller got so rich?” I asked convinced.

“It was.” he told us. “Somehow John Hue lost his sanity, probably by the guilt that was put on him. Not long after the American outbreak the government fell.”

“I was surprised.” Dominic told him “America went under in only 4 months.”

“Sadly it did.” he agreed. “So, naturally when one power falls more rise. Thieves, bandits, mercenary agency's, even us, came alone for our own intentions. We try to save the people; the Black Hawks exploit and use them like toilet paper.”

“Nice analogy.” I told him.

“Thank you.” he said modestly. “So, where was I?”

“America falling.” Dominic told him rapt in the conversation.

“Ah, yes. So America fell. As you know, only a handful of state haven't fallen, even if there is multiple governments that control them; 8 to be exact: Washington, California, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Maine, Wisconsin, and Tennessee.”

“We know that.” I said as the smoke from the room soaked into my lungs. I coughed to get some of it out.

“Black Hawk company, according to the information the you've brought us, says that they want to wipe out all of the remaining states for their own personal gain with the zombie virus, aka ZV. Do you two know how much the Black Hawk company makes, just for personal protection?”

“I'm assuming more than they should.” Dominic mumbled.

“Now, image the entire country, swarming with the ZV, people fighting for their lives. Unlike you two and some other rare cases, when people get bitten they turn into one of them.”

“Isn't their a cure?” I asked hopeful.

“There is,” he said “but it's hard and expensive to make. It costs a pretty penny to get you hands on one of the antidotes. Also, it isn't like if you take it that you'll become invincibility. I only acts like a cold medicine. You get over the infection like nothing even happened after you take it, but once you get bit again you have to mange to get more.”

“Then that means the girl we saved when we first started turned into a zombie?” Dominic asked afraid of the answer.

“No,” he said “luckily we got her medical attention just in time.”

“So, let me guess,” I said “The Black Hawk company wanted the secrets to the virus and they went to the man who knew everything about them.”

“Mr. Miller saw it coming and that's why he asked us to get him bodyguards.” The agency leader said.

“By the way,” Dominic butted in “you should have told us that we were going to have to shoot people, not just zombies.”

“I apologize for the misunderstanding.” he told Dominic as the projector switched slides.

“Misunderstanding?” Dominic said upset “That's what you call that?'

“Can we get back to the matter at hand, please.” I begged.

“Of course.” the leader said “Anyways, after you two killed Dan, one of the men in charge of the Black Hawk company-”

“The one Steve shot in the face and off of a roof?” Dominic asked laughing. The agency leader laughed as well, but his was more of a chuckle.

“It was. As I was saying, after Dan, the Black Hawks looked up your guy's backgrounds and somehow managed to locate your girls, but I'm not sure why. Perhaps trying to black mail you guys or find some sort of weakness.”

“Unfortunately they did.” Dominic said softly. I could hear the hurt in his voice.

“Now that they have your girls. They'll do anything to make sure that you don't interfere with there plans, even if it means using your girls as leverage.”

Dominic chuckled darkly. He walked close to the table.

“Leverage? If they think that they can kill my wife and take my daughter and just walk away.” he stopped and punched the table, leaving a dent in it. “I'll kill them. All of them.”

“We.” I said. “We're in this together, remember?”

He smiled.

The agency leader pressed a button on phone that laid upon the table.

“Could you bring Chris in, please?”
“Certainly sir.” the other end replied.

“So, the Black Hawk agency has placed their main headquarters in a mall that opened right after the infection.” the leader told us.

“Wait,” I said “did you just say 'mall'?”

“Yes, I did.”

“A mall, Really?” I added “isn't that a little cliche?”

A young man, no older than 19, came in wearing agency uniform and had a katana on his back.

“You needed me sir?” he said.

“Boys,” he told us “this is Chris. He's knew to the agency, but he's a part of a new unit.

“What would that be?” Dominic asked out of curiosity.

“Stealth and assassination” he told us.

“So your a ninja or some s**t?” Dominic said with a smirk.

“Why does everyone say that?” Chris said under his breath.

“Mister-” I said confused

“Call me Mr. O.” the agency leader said.

“Mr. O., I'm not so sure that a ninja is going to help us in anyway.”

Chris rolled his eyes.

“Why do we really need him?” Dominic bluntly spit out.

“Do you want your daughter to get murdered like your wife? As soon as you two are found anywhere near the area they'll have you girls killed. If you had Chris extract your daughter and your friends girlfriend then they wouldn't have anything to use as leverage. It may seem complicated, but our men have formed a great tactic plan for you two to follow. If you were to-”

I stopped him for continuing.

“Do you have a layout of the building with a map?” I asked.

“Well, naturally.”

“That's all we need. Dominic and I do the planing.”

“Whatever you guys want to do.” he said. “Just follow Chris to the armory room so you all can work out your plan.”

We both nodded and left the room, following Chris.

As we left I saw Marcus and Josh talking outside of the door, right next to the secretary’s desk.

“They did what to you?” Josh said enraged “Those little-”

“It's fine.” Marcus told him “Did you really think that your own brother would betray you like that?”

“Brother?” I said shocked. “You two are related.”

“Ya,” Marcus said “but after finding out my brother tried to pay you two to kill me I'm not sure I want him to be.”

“Speaking of which....” Dominic implied.

“Ah,” Josh said “I paid you to kill him, not retrieve him.”

Josh laugh, although Dominic didn't find so funny. Dominic cracked his knuckles.

“S**t! I was kidding!” He said scared for a moment. You'll get your money, but it seems you two could use some guns.”

“Well, I did lose mine.” I said a little upset. The only guns I had left were my two handguns. Marcus had given the gun I loaned him back after we got away from the hospital.

“I don't even have a gun.” Chris said.

“I really doubt you could have done anything with that piece of metal alone on your back.”

“You'd have been surprised.” he replied.

“Come on.” Marcus told us “The armory has our latest and greatest models of our guns and armor.”

“Your not gonna make us wear a knights tin can, are you?” I joked “We've already got somebody from the dark ages helping us out.”

“Son of a b***h.” Chris mumbled.

“No,” Josh laughed “But we do have some nice stuff a SWAT team would use.”

We followed them into a room with guns hanging on the walls. Josh and Marcus walked up to them and turned to us. There was everything you could image. MP5's, M4 carbines, Rocket launchers, whatever you could possibly think of. There were also a plethora of crates that scattered the room as well.

“Pick your flavor.” Marcus said happily. Dominic walked up to the wall and looked up.

“I'm fine with my hunting shotgun.” Dominic said confidently.

“How about another gun?”

“How am I supposed to carry around two guns?” he asked confused.

“Simple.” Marcus said as Josh as he opened a crate. He took out a armor vest with two slots on the back of it.”

“This here has slots where you can store them. They work like gun straps but with specialized magnets that only attract the metal of the gun. All you have to to his simply swing the gun over you shoulder and it snaps in place.”

“That's nifty.” I said as I watched him demonstrate. Dominic looked at the wall of guns for a while, breaking off from the main conversation and into his own thoughts. “Well, I lost my AK-47 at the hospital, so I could always go for another one of those.” I added starring at the wall of guns.

“Ah, I remember that piece of s**t.” Josh said seriously as I gave him a dirty look.

“Hey, I liked that gun.”

“I know you did, but the one you had was a poorly made one. Might I suggest the Soviet AK-47 version?”
“Um, is it good?” I asked.

“Is it good?” Josh repeated “Besides not being the most accurate, it's one of the most powerful assault rifles in the world!”

“Alright, I take it.” I said confidently “Do you have anything other suggestions?”

“How about an M16 carbine?” Marcus said, jumping into our conversation “Just put a fiber optic sight on it and and a grenade launcher and you'll have an accurate killing machine; great for long range, even more so on a semi automatic 3 burst fire.”

“Alright,” I said joyously “I'll take that too.” Marcus went to go get the two guns down off the wall as Dominic still starred at the wall. Josh glanced over to Chris.

“You said you don't have a gun, right?” Josh asked Chris politely.

“Ninja's don't use guns; they use throwing stars, right?” Dominic joked. Chris seemed to ignore the crud comment.

“I use to, but until recently it broke during target practice.”

“Target practice?” I said “Are you sure your qualified for actual combat?”

Chris looked at me with heavy eyes. He looked way to serious for the atmosphere of the room; I swear, he looked like he was about to go on a psychopathic rampage like Dominic had done before.

“I've done many things in my life.” he said with an emotionless face “I've assassinated people with my sword, knifes, my bare hands, an even once a payphone.”

A payphone?
“I have climbed buildings like they were trees in a child’s back yard. I've made people beg for their lives just by looking at them.”

A payphone?
“I'm the only one on my team.” he went on “Remember, I'm helping you save your girls lives. Without me they'd probably get gutted like fish.”

“Look,” I said “we're sorry we made fun of you. It's just...well... you are kind of like a ninja.”

“I guess I don't mind you relating to me as such.” he said with acceptance.

“Also,” I added “how the f**k do you kill someone with a payphone?”
Dominic still starred at the wall of guns. I noticed his eyes get bigger. He pointed.

“What is that?” he asked.

“That?” Marcus asked “Oh, that's just an original, but refurbished, police pistol. It's basically a magnum with a 2 inch barrel. You'll probably want something that-”

“I want it!” Dominic said with excitement.

“Are you sure? I would have thought you would have gone with something a little more bigger.”

“I use to own of of those!” Dominic exclaimed. He turned to me. “Steve, remember when we robbed the casino in Vegas?”

“How couldn't I remember; that was to time we got away with bus that I stole at last minute. You gotta love public transportation.”

“I used that gun alone the entire time we robbed the place.”

“Oh, ya huh. I remember now.”

“I loved that gun, until I had to sell it for to get my shotgun repaired after the time when we blew up the gas station at-”

“As much as I'd love to talk about your guy's “work” history,” Chris said interrupting our conversation “but shouldn't we start on a plan?”

“Alright.” I said as we all sat down with the table in front of use. “How are we gonna do this?”
