The Sweet Old Man

The Sweet Old Man

A Story by Red
"

This is a story about an old man we can all relate too (hopefully). This story isn't all that long so its an easy read, and hopefully a good one.

"

The old man sat in his favorite chair as he drank his whisky. He was watching one of his 007 movies, relaxing. His wife walks into his office with a concerned look on her face, as if she was worried about something.

“Bill” she said, “I’m not sure if we have everything for our 4th of July party.”

“If we don’t have something I can go get it.”

“I guess so. But what if we run out of fire works?”

            “Then I’ll get more.”

“ But what if we run out of hotdog buns?”

            “Then I’ll get more.”

            “But what if-”

            “Not to worry.”

That was the old man’s famous line. Not to worry. He said it whenever something wasn’t going as planed. Not to worry. His wife left the room to get ready for the party. The old man continued to drink his alcohol and watched is movie. He did this until people came. Friends and family came. Just as the old man was about to start up the barbecue his grandson ran up to him.

            “Grandpa! Grandpa!”

The old man and his grandson had a tight bond together. The child stayed at his side all the time. The old man was his hero.

The old man began to cook the hotdogs and the burgers. The whole time the child watched him. The child hardly even blinked. He was so fascinated by every flip and turn. When the food was cooked the whole party ate like crazy. The only one who didn’t eat as much was the child. He was too excited for the fireworks.

The old man began to take out boxes and boxes of fireworks. This was the old man’s favorite holiday. He was a patriotic man who loved his country. The man’s favorite firework was the Roman candle. He loved how they shot up into the sky and would explode into beautiful colorful.

Before the party was over everyone said their goodbyes. Just before everyone left the child ran up to the old man and gave him a bear hug.

            “By grandpa. I love you.”

When everyone was gone the old man walked back into his office and sat down in his favorite chair. He poured himself some whisky and turned on his TV. He turned on his VCR and stared to watch 007, just like any other day.

Hmm... I wonder what the motive was behind this story?
Does it go to show you that the old man took life easy, and didnt treat special occasions as they were a part of his every day life? Or, the story has no motive and I am just complicating something simple. Bother.
Haha anyway, great work =]

A little advice, be sure to spell check. Other than that I thought it was simple and sweet. I liked it.
