The Candle And The Bonfire

The Candle And The Bonfire

A Poem by Reckless Ethereal

Gentle forests on fire, tickling the peaks that remain unmoved,
Fluttering waves that end in ivory picks, caressed,
Petals pressed so close that their pigments bleed,
Seconds stretch no longer than an uneasy breath,
A challenge within reassurance lies under paper masks,
Secrets locked behind brash teeth, uttered like dying sighs,
The warmth of deceit embraces the bitter cold of the broken,
Stained words wriggle into cavities and eat their way out,
Fondness gone sour, corroding the undying stone wall,
For but a minute, the shell breaks and the contents spill,
A flower, brittle and dead, into poison water that sparkles,
Imprinted like a footprint in concrete, that once stamped,
Strings tugged and burned from the whittled wick,
Wildfires within pools of water, piercing through the night
