The Devil Gets What He Wants...Always

The Devil Gets What He Wants...Always

A Poem by Mandy Moore

Its late and Im bored

A walk to the graveyard should do

I follow the winding path

Admire the gnarled, bare trees.

The moon is full and bright

Hidden by purple and black clouds

The sky is velvet

And there are no stars

A tombstone reads "The Devil Gets What He Wants....Always"

I kneel by a tree and bury my hands in the moist soil

A shadow goes over me

And I hear breathing

Looking up, theres nothing

A distant howl

A near by laugh

My scream

Fill the air

A hand caresses my hair

And another lifts me to my feet

I stare the demon in the eye

And get weak

The moon has broken out of the clouds

And the graveyard is lit in hues of purple, green, and blue

Music from afar fills the air now

And I sway unwillingly

His hand grabs mine

Another to my waist

Pulling me closer

We twirl and spin

And dip and swing

A kiss on my check leads to kiss on my mouth

His hands in my hair

And a soft whisper in my ear

"The devil gets what he wants....always."

And he disappears

On that lovely night

I danced with the devil in the moonlight.
