Storybook Romances are for Puppets and Villians

A Poem by Mandy Moore

Prove me right

That when you say

I love you

You mean only if I put out

I don't want your kind of love

This dirty brand

Scarring me from the inside

The gum on the bottom of your shoe

Is the same grime that holds your soul together

But the lights only get brighter where you're headed

And the brightest light holds your demise

Rusty metal nails pierce your heart

But still don't reach the core

You don't even realize

Don't even realize

Your letterman jacket doesn't hold stock

In the real world

The girls don't go for the jock

So tell me why

The villain always gets the good girl

And the good boys always get stepped on
