My Apology

My Apology

A Poem by RLArthur
"

The regret of a step mom

"

SORRY, NOT A EASY WORD TO SAY

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THE DAY

LOOKING BACK I CAN SEE THERE WAS A BETTER WAY

I TREATED YOU LIKE WEREN'T MY SONS

CARRIED MY ANGER LIKE A LOADED GUN

AND THANKS TO ME, NOBODY WON

HOW TO ACT WAS UNCLEAR, NONE OF US VOLUNTEERED

ACTIONS STEMMED FROM FEAR

AND SO IT WENT YEAR AFTER YEAR

WITH HEAVY HEART I AGONIZE, WISH I HAD COMPROMISED

SHOULD OF BEEN MORE WISE

AFTER ALL YOU WERE JUST LITTLE GUYS

YEARS ROLLED BY, I WATCHED YOU GROW

TIME SEEMED TO GO BY SO SLOW

MY FEELINGS I NEVER SHOWED

NOW THAT YOUR CHILDHOOD IS BEHIND

I SEE NOW, NO LONGER BLIND

I LOVED YOU THE WHOLE TIME
