Easter is Coming, But I don't Believe in God.A Story by RebeccaAPA short, 202 word story. More a thought process. Easter is coming.
Easter is coming, but I don’t believe in God. It will be just another day. Another day in a long line of days that are simultaneously
too many and too few. I don’t believe in
God. I used to
believe. I saw a man healed once. He had sores all over his body, but my mother
put her age-spotted hands right on his head, and called the Holy Spirit
down. She did it in the middle of
the subway station! She had always been a ballsy woman. He rolled around on the filthy tile for a
while, screamed bloody murder, then froze mid twitch. Eventually he stood up, and his skin was
glowing. I had witnessed an undeniable
miracle. How could I not believe? I saw a
miracle, but I don’t believe in God. The
supernatural is fantasy. Hogwash someone
cooked up to not feel so depressed that their life was a meaningless expanse of
wastefulness. My brother doesn’t believe
either. He told me that having a
meaningful life and being non-religious are not mutually exclusive. He drinks a lot though. He has his own religion. Easter is
coming. Easter is coming, but I don’t
believe in God. © 2015 RebeccaAP |
