Consequence

Consequence

A Poem by Becky
"

I was watching a crime show and I began to think, what if the crime committed was an accident? The only reason to punish them would be out of malice for them, or something else.

"
Darkness has taken
over the day.
I am so tired yet here
I lay.
Listening to and cherishing
all the night things come alive with
the sinking of the sun.
For them it is like
the day has just begun.
In the distance I hear a
lone wolf's lonesome cry.
He howled as the
moon was the unreachable apple of
his eye.
Still, I lay here wide awake.
I roll to my side and
begin to quake
My worry I cannot hide
It was an accident, yet they
would not let him slide.
I can hear the crickets
chirping, and the bull frogs bellowing.
Now I roll to my back, trying
to think of how I got so off-track
I heard the owls
reverberating question.
Then his screech before he
flies to his new destination.
How did I end up in this
place?
Frustration crept into my
mind, so I rise and begin to pace.
I look out of my small
window my hear fills with sorrow.
Then the sun rose to bring
about the dawn.
I came to a great realization
I will never again be a part of
civilization.
I then heard the keys in
the door, my legs buckle and I hit
the floor.
The guard says:
Stand up, son. It's time.
I will soon pay for my
accidental crime.
Suddenly the sky
clouded over, and it began to pour
There I stood, bleakly
staring at the door.
The door swung open I
held my head high to walk the
distance to my extinction.
Even though it is pouring
many people waited to see my awesome
extermination.
As I knelt and lowered
my head to the block, I heard the
ticking of the clock.
I was tortured by
each tick.
I knew what was to
happen on the sixth tick.
On the fifth tick, I looked
up to see a pair of crystal blue, cruel
eyes.
She said, "Now your
head's gonna roll." to my surprise.
