Labyrinth of Dreams

Labyrinth of Dreams

A Poem by Brianna Van Zandt
"

Somewhat inspired by the Nox Arcana song of the same title. Just started typing. Not my usual kind of thing.

"

I close my eyes,

Let my mind wander,

I let my mind see what it wants,

Let it see that which isn’t real.

The Labyrinth rising up before me,

It’s paths seeming so simple to follow,

So deceiving in their simplicity,

The Labyrinth is a trap for dreamers like me.

I was warned:

Do not go into the Labyrinth.

But I didn’t listen.

I went for an escape,

And found myself ensnared,

Not in dreams,

But in nightmares,

Terrors that would scare any other,

Back the way they came.

The things I saw,

The things I said

To the things I saw.

People would call me crazy,

Would call me insane

And lock me away.

But I am not crazy,

Just different.

Unique.

I see what most cannot see,

Hear what most choose not to hear

And I speak the languages the nightmares know,

The long-dead languages of ancient cities.

Cities that rose to power in many times,

And many places,

And met their end in other times.

Though we call them monsters,

I know the truth.

They aren’t monsters,

Just misunderstood.

They are friends,

Friends who did as I did,

And ventured blindly

Into the forbidden Labyrinth.

The Labyrinth of Dreams.

They went in,

Just like me,

To escape the hell,

They called their lives,

To disappear to a place where they were wanted,

Into the darkness of their minds,

Into worlds of their own creation

To get away from all they feared.

Instead of their own dreams,

The wanderers found the Labyrinth.

They saw it as a refuge,

A place to come and go as they pleased.

So they went in,

But they got lost,

As lost as I am now,

Never to return,

To the world of the living.

They died here,

Their bodies in their beds,

Their deaths mysteries.

They died in here,

In this Labyrinth,

Lost and alone,

Never to be seen by those they love,

Or those who loved them.

Lost in the Labyrinth,

The victims of their own dreams.

The human hunters have become the prey,

Prey to the creatures they feared,

Creatures only their own minds could make.

They did as I did and made contact,

Followed the paths the nightmares made,

Becoming forever trapped within the walls of the Labyrinth.

The Labyrinth of Dreams.

I really don't even know what I wrote. Wrote it in about five minutes, if that. Let me know what you think. Kinda just pointless writing when it started. I don't know.

was good, had a lot of creativity in it

The mind may sometimes explore the borders of its world, creating categories of experiences that it can classify by common identity, form links and create a greater view of its experiences. It likes to grow, knows where its gone before and looks for new possibilities. It may be guided by what others say or do...makes it wonder how others do it and whether it can do more or the same.

this gives off the haunting aura of an boiling emotional turmoil of being lost
and spooked, the Labyrinth indeed, powerful and epic, excellent job.

This was really great. I enjoyed it very much even if it was written unintentionally. Sometimes that free writing tells us something. I kept thinking this would be a great prologue for a book. There is potential there. Good descriptions.

Awesome poem! And I really liked the fact that it is long! It flows really well and I don't think it is pointless at all! Keep writing!

Sometimes what seems pointless is very reveling. Do not be offended by my using the term "conscious rambling". It is actually something encouraged by talk therapists. This seems very coherent writing for the most part and to complete in such a short time period may be something you should pursue as a source for inspiration. Much creative writing can be discovered through this free expression. It can be a very cathartic form of expression. Labyrinths are much like mazes with a more distinct pathway...you will likely re-read and edit because it is clear to this reader the thought does not stop here..There is a lot of good imagery and the words chosen are emotionally charged. I actually see several potential poems within these many lines...just a humble opinion...well done for such a short time frame...
