Chapter Seven: Cries in the Night

When I finally woke,  it was to a soft little voice singing in the shadows. It was an eerie sound, just a high female voice with the sporadic wails of ghosts. I sat up, brushing dirt from my clothes, then looked at Asher.

                “What happened?”

“You passed out,” he answered quickly, clearly on high alert. He heard the phantasmal cries that filled the darkness around us as well and they made him uncomfortable. He was holding a knife in his right hand. In his left, however, he held the flute. “We need to get out of here. This place is going to get us killed.” With that, he helped me up and started walking. He tried to ignore the flitting shadows and the ethereal music that filled our ears.

“Where are we going?” I asked. His only response was to point in the direction of a building with lights shining on it and faint ones within. The sign on the front called it a Hall of Mirrors. I saw a house or horrors, but I let him lead me in.
