Anyone Can Be A Hero

Anyone Can Be A Hero

A Poem by Brianna Van Zandt
"

Just a random thing I wrote after a fight with a friend about heros.

"

Anyone Can Be A Hero

You don't have to be Superman,

Or a superhero.

You don't need powers,

Or magic or goofy costumes.

Jeans and a t-shirt,

A suit and tie.

Anyone can be a hero,

If they dare to try.

If you run into a fire,

When everyone runs out,

To save a child,

That's been left behind in the panic,

You're a hero.

When you go to war,

To defend your country,

And protect your men in the field,

No matter the risk to yourself,

You're a hero.

When you take a bullet,

For a total stranger,

Fighting for the "greater good,"

You're a hero.

There's no criteria,

Set in stone.

No rules or regulations,

No dress code or standards to meet.

A hero doesn't need to be super,

They just need to have a heart.

So anyone can be a hero.

If they dare to try.

Your right for me hero is very controversial when it gets to war. Are the men who bomb children, mothers fathers uncles and bystanders for a flag...really a hero or just a paid mercenary. Are the men who strap bombs to their chest for their country heroes? Or mercenary men. Everything is controversial in america where everyone wants to depict something heartfelt. I hope i didnt get out of being gentle. This struck up the controversy in my heart and was very opinionated got me thinking :)

Research shows that people are more apt to do heroic deeds when there aren't others or many others around. Mobs impede heroism since everyone stands around and waits for someone else to do something. Your poem reminds me of Rudyard Kiplings Poem "If"

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

Heroes are made from the situations they find themselves in and those who were there know one when he or she acts. Those who come after with other agendas who have lost the moment. I love your comment about there not being a dress code and I think that includes gender, age, race and religion. This is a very thought-provoking poem. Thank you for sharing it.

That's your opinion, which you are free to believe and voice.
The real heroes give up their own live unselfishly. Keep writing and sharing your words unselfishly. This makes you a hero.
