Your right for me hero is very controversial when it gets to war. Are the men who bomb children, mothers fathers uncles and bystanders for a flag...really a hero or just a paid mercenary. Are the men who strap bombs to their chest for their country heroes? Or mercenary men. Everything is controversial in america where everyone wants to depict something heartfelt. I hope i didnt get out of being gentle. This struck up the controversy in my heart and was very opinionated got me thinking :)

They do it to protect their people, as they should. As a hero should. They risk their lives to protect the American people from extremists and terrorists. There are civilian casualties, but the United States military tries to limit that. To my knowledge, at least. That's my opinion. They are heroes, to me.

That's your opinion, which you are free to believe and voice.
Research shows that people are more apt to do heroic deeds when there aren't others or many others around. Mobs impede heroism since everyone stands around and waits for someone else to do something. Your poem reminds me of Rudyard Kiplings Poem "If"
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
Heroes are made from the situations they find themselves in and those who were there know one when he or she acts. Those who come after with other agendas who have lost the moment. I love your comment about there not being a dress code and I think that includes gender, age, race and religion. This is a very thought-provoking poem. Thank you for sharing it.

It's been a while since I've been here. I'm now twenty years old, and though my time for writing has dwindled, my passion has not. If anything, it has grown – and made it infinitely more difficu.. more..
