CalebA Poem by Rebecca J MartinA poem I did for a friend of mine. I had permission to use her son's photo for the art work :)There was a boy named Caleb Who loved to play He met some turkeys On the roof one day This was not strange For a boy like him He did many things On a thought of a whim His mother said, “Caleb come down from there!” A turkey gobbled at her Which made her swear. The tree behind him Suddenly turned blue The sky went pink How could this be true? His mother wasn’t shocked She wasn’t even shaken She was used to Caleb Making her imagination awaken His mother stood At the top of the ladder As she watched from the ledge Nothing else seemed to matter What fun he was having What magic he brought From the center of make-believe It couldn’t be taught Suddenly Caleb Smiled real big “Looksee mom, It’s a magic twig” Pixie dust floating Caleb became real small He jumped on a turkey No fear at all The turkey glided From the roof to the ground It happened so naturally It was almost profound He turned toward his mother With one tap of the twig She now had pink hair, And it wasn’t a wig So when you see Caleb Expect there to be Fairies, and Pixies Maybe a purple sea Always be accepting And you’ll always be aware That there’s so much more out there In his mind, beneath his hair © 2018 Rebecca J MartinAuthor's Note
