It was like being pulled in without any alternative. There was no choice in this. Everything about him captivated you. His smell tangled around you, enticing you ever further. Did he even notice you? He was so nonchalant that it was hard to tell. He was a puzzle, but that's what you liked about him. You watched him, heart beating fast at the risk of him catching you. In this busy cafe you felt almost safe staring at him like a small child in a sweet shop. You found it terrifyingly difficult to tear your gaze away from his soft enchanting face. That's what he was; enchanting. He turned then, looking up suddenly, but it took you by surprise and you didn't look away, so of course he noticed. He looked quite taken aback, but his face remained soft and his mouth curled into a sweet smile. You blinked at him blankly for a short time, almost not believing, but when you snapped back to reality, it was all you could do not to grin at him like a Cheshire cat on speed. In that serene moment of you both looking at each other, smiling, you almost saw the word perfect flash across your mind. You felt stupid, corny even and you shook yourself, looking down suddenly. Your cheeks flashed red and feeling them burn, you buried your head, not even daring to look up. Was that all it was? Just a perfect moment and nothing more? Something meant only to be enjoyed in that small time, perfect though it was. Your stomach dropped now. Perfect didn't exist. Books and films had filled your head with such nonsense, things like happily ever afters and love at first sight. You had been brought up on the belief that a man, strong, brave and somehow unaware of his obvious beauty, would fall in love with you and rescue you in your moment of need. These things didn't happen. You felt silly and childish for being drawn in by these fairytales. The scraping of the chair made you jump. In all your humiliation at your own stupidity, you hadn't noticed him wander over. He sat down across from you, those deep dark eyes looking almost right through you. As he smiled once more, you gave in. He'd won.
