Barren Horizon

Barren Horizon

A Poem by Darrin Reay

The barren horizon
Will one day come;
A wind from the ocean
Will have then begun
To rise up higher
And bellow out a tune
Saying, “your inside fire
Is heading to the moon.”

A carpet of gold
Now for all to see;
It’s twinkling told
How you’d be free
Another deception
Pulled over your eyes
The fear of rejection
Is all but realized.

A deafening howl
To strike the fear
Of societies cowl
And the ability to steer
Your life off track
Down a lonely road
Where all is black
And all bares a heavy load.

The treads behind
Will all but disappear
You may be blind
But soon you’ll see clear
Life and nature
And the goodness within
Go be your own teacher
And you’ll go on to win.
